Even though I have been a member since mid-July, I've generally just read the posts in this great forum. Nice group of people you all are.......At any rate I am about 12 days away from my banding with Dr. Tishler (great guy). My approval from the insurance company took about a week as I have several other co-morbid conditions. Which most of course will disappear with weight loss. The hard part was journey to get this point in time. I had to have a minimum of 6 visits with a nutrionist 1x montly. That took forever. The nutrionist was very helpful.
Dr. T instructed me to do the Pre-op diet for 3 weeks as I have had previous surgery due to intenstinal disease. As a result my stomach has moved up under part of my ribs so I will be a challenge for him.
I've lost about 15lbs since being on the pre-op diet (I do lose weight quickly but keeping it off is the issue). I am so hungry i could eat a horse! The hardest part of the day is how wonderful the kichen smells when my wife cooks dinner for our family. I simply drool.
My biggest concern is losing weight too quickly and then having to deal with excessive skin, but I guess that should the least of my worries.

I wanted to go home and have it there but I had it here with Dr. Aranow. I am from the west side of Dayton. Only an hour north of Cincy but still a Browns fan. Unfortunately here it's all about the Pats. Has anyone ever looked at you like you have two heads when you tell them you aint really a Pats fan? It's like they can't comprehend it. How did you end up here? Me? I met the hubby online and this is where he is from and he had the job when we got married so here I am. Would give anything to move back to Ohio.
I shall now be know as Hagatha: Queen of the queens.

Good luck to you. Although I am only 4 days post-op, I am feeling pretty good considering what I have gone through, Lap RNY. I did the liquid diet for 2 weeks pre-op and lost 17 pounds. It will be worth it for you come time of surgery. You are already at a disadvantage because of the position of your stomach, Any little thing you can do leading up to the surgery is only going to be a benefit. I know what you mean about smelling food and not being able to eat. Be strong. Find something to keep your mind otherwise occupied or go for a walk. What ever it takes.
Take care.

MastaP.......thanks for the kind words.
I wish you well and a speedy recovery. I hope you don't have any issues with PE as you have had with your prior surgeries. I tend to keep myself pretty occupied. It's amazing that I am having this kind of discipine now. Wish I had had it in my other attempts at dieting. But food is constantly in front of us and such a part of our lives.

Banded for life on Monday, Oct 27, 2008. The surgery was quick considering my doctor performed a 2 for 1 special. He also repaired a hiatal hernia which I had but was not causing problems at the moment. It was a good preventive move.
At any rate what hurt the most was haveing the tube down my throat during surgery and the location of the port. It feels like a tug of war was played in that spot. The gas part was amusing as I don't need to be encouraged to pass gas at all! It was wasn't until Friday that I felt hungry at all (had trouble even taking sips of water since the surgery. I guess things are falling into place and the wounds are healing. On Saturday and today I have had protein shakes and have been able to drink water with no problem now.
Starting, Monday I will introduce some yogurt and tomato soup plus a shake and some jello. I'll do that for a week and then go onto oatmeal and other mushy food etc. By Thanksgiving I should be able to tolerate some turkey. That will be one tough holiday.
Onward and forward.....
