PB'ing & vomiting is my biggest fear
Hello all, I am in the process of getting approved for lap-band and I think my biggest fear is PB'ing , vomiting & choking. Is it really that bad or am I making this too much of an issue. It seems like some people have no problems swallowing and keeping food and liquids down & others have problems with lots of different foods and liquids. Any suggestions as to avoiding the PB & vomiting? Should I be this concerned about it? Thanks.
Hi Michelle,
I was banded six months ago and haven't had that hard of a time PB'ing. Most bandsters that PB on a regular basis usually fit into one or more catagories: they aren't chewing enough, slowly enough or small enough bites, they are eating too much or the food is too dry. All of these things can be problem solved to the point where you don't PB at all. Right after a fill sometimes there will be a few PB episodes but once you get accustomed to your fill and how much and what you can tolerate eating, PBing is not and should not be a issue at all. It really isn't as horrible as it sounds. For me it is NOTHING like vomiting. The food isn't digested at all so it's not THAT gross but it can damage your esophagus and pouch so it should be avoided anyhow.
Thanks Eileen, I needed a reality check. Sometimes the "unknown" is more scary than the truth! I am glad to hear that you are doing well and I only hope that I have the same experience. I really need to take control of my body and my weight. I am 33 and have a 4 yr old son--who I want to see me as a physically active, fun, healthy mom. I don't want the kids at his school to make fun of him because of my weight. I thank you again for your time & I am soooo happy that Dr. Ehrlich told me about this site. -michelle

Hello,
I just got banded 4 days ago and just out of curiosity, what is PB'ing?
