Hi, All! I've been having abdominal cramps for the past wk., following an episode of passing some bright red blood a wk. ago. I saw Dr. A. yesterday and he doesn't think that it's related to surgery, so he suggested (as my PCP did) that I see a gastroenterologist and have a colonoscopy. I used to have a gastroenterologist at Yale, but he's now at NYU. Dr. A. would have referred me to someone in Middletown, but since I live in Hamden I'd rather go to someone in the Hamden-New Haven area. According to Dr. A., gastric bypass surgery doesn't affect getting a colonoscopy, but as long as I'm looking for a new gastroenterologist, I'd like one who is familiar with and has patients who've had gastric bypass surgery, just in case something ever comes up in the future where the surgery is a factor. I'm going to check the HealthNet website to see which gastroenterologists in the area are participating and my PCP did give me one name, so I'll call her practice on Mon., but I thought I'd also ask all of you if you have any recommendations for me. Thank you for your help, Debby

I enjoyed working with Dr. Sarfraz Naeem so much as part of the gastroenterology pre-operative work-up that I switched to him as my primary. Although he isn't in New Haven, I think he would be worth the trip. His office is in Fairfield (2000 Post Rd Fl 2) and his number is: (203) 254-9454

Debby, I worked with Dr. Bryan Burns in Trumbull, preoperatively and would highly recommend him. He is very easy to talk to and has knowledge related to Gastric Bypass surgery as well. He practices with four other gastroenterologists and they have a surgical center in the same building. They are: Fairfield County Endoscopy Center 888 White Plains Road Suite 210 Trumbull CT 06611 203-268-1193 Good luck with your choice.

I've used a good one in Stamford, if you want to go that far . . . don't know, tho, if she's got experience with WLS patients.

Hi Debby, My good friend has worked for Dr. Robert Aaronson for like 27 yrs. He is board certified in gastroenterology, internal medicine, and radiology. I strongly recommend him. They do in-office colonoscopies. They have an office in Branford and one in New Haven. Good luck. JA

Debby, I see a wonderful gastroenterologist out of Temple in New Haven (she also works at Yale). Her name is Dr. Mae Tighe and I just love her. I have had colonoscopies and endoscopies performed by her and I couldn't ask for a more caring doctor. Good luck to you, Nancy K

Debby, Forgot to mention that I am almost positive that she has experience with gastric bypass patients because I did speak with her about it (for myself)and she was very informed. Nancy K

I'm glad to read this post, I am scheduled for the lapband in about 2 weeks in New Haven, and I have Ulcerated Colitis. I need to have a colonoscopy about every 2 years, and I was wondering if I can still have it even after the lapband. This post answered my question, thanks all. Corgi
