1 week post and have a ?
Hi Everyone,
I will be 1 week post op tomorrow. I'm doing good I think. The only thing I am having trouble with is taking my meds. I am on synthroid, paxil then I take flinstones and tums.
I got the liquid form of paxil, omg it is nasty, am I able to just chug it like a shot. Or do I have to sip it like I've been. The snythroid is only a little little so I cut it in half and take it that way. Then the flinstones and the tums I chew.. YUCK
Today I ate :
B: 2oz of slimfast
water
1 flinstone
2 tums a hour after the flinstone
S: 3 popsicles
a few sips of chicken broth
L: 2oz of slimfast
crystal light
2 tums
D: 2oz of slimfast
water
popsicles
Tonight its about 9:25pm I took the last of my meds. I took another flinstone, 2 tums, synthroid, and I cut my paxil into 4 and swollowed them with sips of crystal light...
Ok, what am I doing wrong if anything or right. Give me the truth... lol

If you can get a whole shot of something down without throwing it back up...go for it..I had to do that with liquid lortab..gawd it was nasty....just follow whatever instructions regarding diet your Doc gave you..they are ALL different! Keep working on getting in the water (64 oz...daily goal) and the protein drink...I live by protein....the whole day is based on getting in all the water and the protein for me. I feel like I have a small pharmacy as well!
I am suprised I have room for any food after my vitamins and stuff!
You sound like you are hanging in there pretty well to me!
Keep up the good work!

Tara,
The only comment I have to make is with the tums. Are you supposed to be taking so many tums? I guess it depends on the mg. in each tums. I only take 2 500 mg. tums a day, separate from each other because supposedly you can only absorb 500 mg at a time. If they are 500 mg. then you are taking 3000 mg a day. I think you only need 1000 a day.
Otherwise you seem to be doing fine. How are you otherwise?
Pam
To add to the Tums comment, if you take too much you will get constipated. That happened to me. They told me to take 2- 500 mg tablets a day, so I take one in the am and one in the pm. But after surgery I bought a bottle that was 1000 mg each, not knowing, and ended up constipated.
It sounds like you are doing great. Good luck.

Hi Tee. Don't worry hon- we don't flame on the CT boards... In fact, I'd be surprised if most poeple on the CT boards even know what that means! We're such a nice considerate group of folks- we have no use for flaming.
I appreciate you bringing this information up. First, it bears noting that I don't think EVERY surgeon is on board with the whole citrate vs. carbonate thing. So, they still instruct that Tums is an OK way to get calcium.
Second- I'm not entirely sure WHERE that info comes from, but I have it im my mind that SOMEBODY studied it and came up with the idea that citrate is absorbed in a different place than carbonate...and apparently our ability to absorb carbonate (RNY'ers) is compromised. I'd be willing to bet that a couple of the religious citrate takers on the main boards will be albe to cite the exact source of the information...
SO- what to do, what to do?
Personally- I err on the side of caution. Since nobody is saying there potential issues with citrate and many say there are with carbonate- I take citrate. Citrate does present some problems- they're HUGE- being the foremost, and they can't be taken with any Iron, so have to be spaced out.
I would advise having a talk w/ your surgeon about Carbonate vs. Citrate. But, don't be surprised if the Dr. that's telling you tums is OK looks at you like you have four heads. They're just not up to speed on it.
Best,
Lisa C
