Anyone been able to go back to work before six weeks with open RNY? Just hoping, but something tells me that I will have to take the entire six weeks, which I can't really afford.

Hi there Delicia; I think that each of us recovers differently. Also a lot depends on what type of job that you have and how physically demanding your job is. I had open RNY and Dr. Aranow said that I could return to work as soon as I felt up to it after 2 weeks. I am a signal supervisor on the railroad which requires me to be in the field as well as in the office. Because of this, I didn't go back for 4 weeks. I had just started the supervisor job, so I really didn't want to stay out that long, but I felt that I needed to. I know some people who have desk jobs who were back to work in 2 weeks or even less. I think that you need to listen to what your doctor and your own body tells you about when it's time to return to work. I hope this helps. Best of luck on your surgery and you'll be in my thoughts and prayers on the "Big Day"!! Mike

I have a desk job and have open RNY on 11/8/2004. I was ready to go back to work about 2 weeks after my procedure. I think it just depends on your body and how it handles the surgery. Good luck!

My job requires a lot of traveling and driving, at least two weeks out of the month. I'm just worried about being out for a long time because I just started the position, but it sounds like I will probably have to be out 4-6 weeks. I wish I could have just been born rich, than I would have all of these financial/work concerns.

Hi Delicia, I think your Dr would let you go back to work before the 6 weeks if you really wanted to. If you feel up to it and are able to kind of take it slow. I know sometimes the stress of worry about a new job is worse than the tiredness of going back early. Good luck, Sandy

Delicia~ I've been following your posts, and I am so happy your job will work with you for your surgery. It's so important to take care of your health, because without that, how can you feel your best to help others? I have a desk job and went back after 3 1/2 weeks. I wish you all the luck in the world. Hugs~ Stacey 254/188/???
