Frustrated ~ Lurkers Help Too!!!
Good Morning,
I need your help. I have been stuck at 270 lbs. for roughly a month now and I'm 12 weeks Post-Op on Monday. Now I don't want you to think that I am ungrateful, I just want to make sure that I am using my tool to it's greatest efficiency. I am working out 6-7 days a week for a minimum of an hour combining cardiovascular training and light weight training. I am eating roughly 2 times daily with 1 or 2 snacks. My protein intake is between 90-110 grams daily. I am taking in my fluids and vitamins ok. I know my body has to adjust and I have thought of that. I have been on the protein train 3 times since the weight loss stopped and that did not work. I have increased and varied my workouts twice to no avail. I am down a total of 76 lbs. and I truly thank God for that, but I need to get this thing started again.
So my question is does anyone have any suggestions to get the scale moving again?

Hi, Frenchy!
It sounds like you're doing all the right things, and I know that's the frustrating part.
I am 14 months out after having lap-band surgery, and I go through a plateau (of varying length) about every other month. There seems to be no reason why they happen: I'm not exercising any less, nor eating more, or more fatty foods, but they still happen.
As much as I despise them, I've learned to ride them out, because when they end, I drop a lot of weight all at once. I know that there are a lot of people who experience this, and you may just be another one of them. As hard as it will be to do, try to give it a little more time. In the meantime, you may want to give your surgeon a jingle to see if he/she has any suggestions.
Congratulations on your great work so far!
Bette
(laughs) Joanie, I CAN"T FIGURE OUT HOW TO CHANGE THAT OLD ONE! Argh!
And as for me, I just reached my goal. I had wanted to weigh what I did when I left high school, which was 195. And I had wanted to reach goal within 18 months of my surgery. This morning, I was 194 and I've lost 182 pounds - 4 months ahead of what I thought was an impossible schedule.
Everything from here on it is, pardon the food analogy, gravy.

Frenchy,
How many calories are you getting? I would check that. You may not be getting enough! You said you are eating twice a day with snacks. Check the calorie count.
If you aren't getting enough calories, your metabolism will slow down to nothing because it thinks your body is starving and it wants to protect you.
If you are getting enough calories, protein and exercise, your body is recovering from the shock of dropping all that weight so fast, time will take care of this problem.
It's hard to be patient, trust me I know from personal experience. But it's all normal.
Good luck and keep us posted!
Ann
101lbs GONE!
Ahhh Frenchy, you are doing so much better than I. I am a plateau queen. I was on my first just two weeks after surgery, and it lasted a month. I am currently on my second one, it has been two weeks. I have lost 45 lbs. I seem to lose rapidly for about a week and a half or two weeks, then I plateau for about 2-3 weeks.
I would try changing something, I was told to change up the protein, eat more or less, or you can even try changing up the exercise. Sometimes your body gets used to the exercise you have been doing and needs to be different.
I try not to get too down about it, my body seems to catch up in time. But try one those things I mentioned, and the scale will move again. At least I hope mine will!
And make sure you take those measurements, that may be changing!
Pam
Hey Frenchy;
I agree with Ann. You sound like you are doing everything right, but with the amount of exercise that you are getting, you actually may not be eating enough! I know it sounds crazy, but your body may have shifted into "starvation mode" and is trying to hold on to some of that fat to get it through "hard times". Check your calorie count and make sure that you are not short- changing yourself. You're doing a great job! Don't get discouraged, we all go through the dreaded Plateau!!
