I'M BANDED, CAME HOME TODAY
I had my surgery yesterday at 3:30 and was home by 12:00 today. I feel pretty good. I am sore but not in pain. Getting in and out of bed is the worst part of it all. I am walking around the house. No gas yet but the Dr. said it usually appears on day 3 or 4. I bought gasx. Should I take the gasx before I start getting gas pains or wait for the gas pains?
I was sent home with some morphine sulfate 30mg to take every 8 hrs. Codeine tends to make me nauseous. I didnt need much in meds at the hospital. I asked for a dose before I left so I wouldnt stir up the pain getting in and out of the car and such on the way home.
St. Francis hospital was very good. All the nurses were great. The only issue I had was that my doctor was tied up in surgery (not bariatric surgery) because they came across something unexpected in someones surgery. But the doctors came out to let me know the time delay and the nurses in the waiting area for surgery were really nice. I was suppose to have surgery at 10:15am but didnt go in until 3:30. You cant be upset with something unforseen like this.
Also, with all the "anesthesia awareness" scare going on, I asked them what precautions they take. They use a monitor they put on your head so they know how deep of a sleep you are in at all times. That certainly was a relief.
So, now I am on to another 2 weeks of liquids but at least now I can have some tomato soup and tomato juice and 8 oz fruit juice everyday.
I will survive. But, let me tell you, I cant wait for 2 weeks, I think I will have oatmeal with applesauce and mashed potatoes (not good but just till I get to solids).
Thanks to all of you for being supportive and God Bless.
