Hi, Stu! Are you coming back to CT for a visit and want to attend a support group meeting while you're here, or are you moving back? In either case, here's more info. about the Middletown group that Lauren mentioned along with info. about a group in Hamden. I attend both groups, though not every meeting. The meetings at Middlesex Hospital in Middletown are attended primarily by the patients of Dr. Jonathan Aranow, but anyone else is welcome to attend. There are meetings every Mon. night as well as the 1st Tues. of the month. In each case, the meeting runs from 7 to 8 p.m. The schedule is: 1st Mon.: for pre-ops only - nutritional and psych. info. 2nd Mon.: for both pre- and post-ops - general discussion and questions 3rd Mon.: same as 2nd Mon. 4th Mon.: for pre-ops only - panel of post-ops giving presentation and answering questions 5th Mon. (only happens 4 times a yr.): for both pre- and post-ops - run by nutritionist who answers questions 1st Tues.: for post-ops only - general discussion and questions So as a post-op, you'd have your choice of the 2nd, 3rd and 5th Mondays, and the 1st Tues., generally 3 meetings a month. The meetings in Hamden are held at the Senior Center behind the Miller Library in the center of town on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month, from 6:30 till about 8 p.m. Although most of the attendees had their surgery (or plan to) at one of the 2 hospitals in New Haven, this meeting isn't affiliated with any doctor and everyone (both pre- and post-op) is welcome at any time. This group was started by a couple of post-ops who needed more support than they could get from the once-a-mo. meeting run by their doctor's program in New Haven. The Middletown group doesn't meet on major holidays and the Hamden group doesn't meet on days when the library is closed. Presidents' Day is 2 wks. from now on Mon., 2/21, and the library is closed, so the Hamden group is trying to reschedule for Tues., 2/22, but that's not definite yet. We don't yet know if the Middletown group will be meeting that night or no****ch the CT board for postings about both groups for that week. If you want directions to either meeting or just want more info., feel free to e-mail me. If you do want directions, be sure to let me know which town you'd be coming from and if you are at all familiar with the general area of either Middletown or Hamden. There are a few of us who generally plan to go out to dinner after attending a support group meeting. You're welcome to join us if you want. Hope this helps, Debby
