Got a date...but it's a problem

I have never been good with making decisions and this is a tough one for me. Tonight, I met with my surgeon and got a date for my surgery for 3/16/05. I was expecting a surgery date in May but he was able to find one in March. The problem is this, I just started a new position in my agency which is my dream job, I get to travel and I'm not as stressed (I'm a child protection social worker). If I go out on medical leave, I may lose this position and return to my old position, which I don't want to do. But I've also been waiting for this surgery date for almost a year and the thought of calling the doctor tomorrow and rescheduling is breaking my heart. Ultimately, it is my decision on what to do, but I was just wanting to talk to my OH family and get some opinions.

That is a tough one. I would honestly say that if you don't want to lose that position, reschedule. I would talk to work first and make sure that is the case. I know you've been waiting a long time for surgery, but having a long term job you love is a very rare find. Good luck. I don't envy you for having to make that decission. Hugs, Maggie

Oh Delicia, I am so sorry that you have to make a decission like this. What a dilemma. Are you sure you would lose your position. If yes, then I would say reschedule. I know you've been waiting for a long time for surgery, but having a job you love with no stress is so hard to find. Please let us know what you decide. Hugs, Maggie

THIS IS A TOUGH ONE. I SAY THE SURGERY WILL BE THERE IN TWO MONTHS THE JOB WON'T. YOU WAITED ONE YEAR YOU CAN HOLD OUT TWO MONTHS. TALK TO PERSONEL FIRST THEN TAKE IT FROM THERE. BLESSINGS SPLENDALICIOUS

If you have been with the company more than a year by law there is nothing they can do to you if you take a leave for medical reasons and it is no more than 6 weeks. You said you have a new position so it sounded as if you have worked for the same agency and have received a promotion. If that is the case, file the necessary papers and be worry free!

FMLA.....Family Medical leave Act....applies to YOU too....and they cannot touch your job. I take it you are not unionized? Either way....this Act applies ..it is Federal...I would think it unsual and discriminatory for them to bounce you back to your old job for being ill/having surgery.... Sher'

FMLA only says that she has to return to a job at the same rate of pay, not the same job. Just went through it last year with Joanne. In her case, she ended up better off after returning. Peter
