Hi everyone, I am relatively new to this site. I have met some of you through the support group meetings at Middlesex Hospital. I check in here almost daily and read through all of the posts, and they have been extremely helpful. I went to Dr. Aranow's informational meeting in November and was lucky enough to get an appointment with him on Dec. 7th. Since then, things have really flown. I had met all of my requirements by the 3rd week of January. I received a call from Lois in Dr. Aranow's office on Friday saying that my insurance (Anthem BC/BS) had cleared my surgery. I have a surgery date of February 28th. I am excited an panicked in the same instance. I did not expect everything to go through so quickly and have a surgery date 3 weeks away. I woke up this morning at 3:00 a.m. and had a panic attack about everything I need to get squared away in the next 3 weeks before surgery. I am so exited, though, in getting to start my new life so soon. I guess in some ways I feel a bit unprepared for what's to come, but I also feel so incredibly excited. I have met with Alina (dietician) and Kim(psychologist) a few times already. I have absolutely no doubts about the surgery or my choice of surgeon and I know that I am unbelievably lucky to have received a surgery date so quickly and without hassle. Did anybody else feel anything similar to this prior to surgery? Is there anything else that can help mentally prepare me? Thanks, Debbi

Debbi- Congratulations on everything going so quickly! EVERYone feels panic before this life changing surgery! It would abnormal NOT to feel this way. I actually took my time in the process...to let everything sink in and it did. If you have done your research and figured out what your post op support and exercise will be...you are all set! Its been a life saving change for me...I would do it again "in a heartbeat"! Please stay active on these boards..they truely are one of the keys to success. Regards Joanie

HI Debbi! I too have a quick time line, and I feel just as nervous as you...I went to the Nov. Meeting, and my surgery in 2/15! Yikes. I actually felt quilty for having no problems insurance wise because of all the people on here that have so much trouble getting approved. I think your feelings are perfectly normal!! Best of luck to you in your journey! Kristin

Hi Debbi Everything you are feeling is perfectly normal. Your date will be here before you know it and then you'll be a big loser to. I think that most of us feel like that nervousness, anxiety and about a million other feelings. Try to rest and relax as much as you can, Maggie
