Terri Brodeur Marathon Walk
Hi all,
I am excited to tell you all of my plans to join the Terri Brodeur Breast Cancer Foundation Walk Across Southeastern Connecticut to be held on Saturday October 4th.
This organization stands out from all others because of its promise that 100% of gross fundraising dollars go directly to breast cancer research. In 2005, Norma Logan and Sandy Maniscalco led a group of walkers in raising $200,000 for an internatioanlly renowned breast cancer foundation. But afterwards they found out that 40% of all the money the team raised went to overhead. Of the $200,000 raised, $80,000 never made it to critical research programs. In 2006, these two friends formed an all volunteer foundation dedicated to this promise that 100% of all donations be given to fund research. An so, in the first yearof the TBBCF, Logan's promise has fufilled three $100,000 grants awarded to three different cancer research scientists chosen by the Foundation's Scientific Board. And in the last two years, the Foundation has donated over $700,000 to breast cancer research. Your donations cann be any more direct than this.
My personal motivation for walking the marathon is two-fold. The first is the loss of my mother-in-law, Pat, four years ago to breast cancer. She was an amazing lady whose life was cut short much too young. Sadly, she missed out on many important milestones that her grandchildren have and will experience. Secondly, I am planning to join the walk because of my own personal experience with overcoming obesity. A year ago, I would have never considered joining the walk and more than that, I physically could not have even attempted such an accomplishment. Thanks to the inspiration of another CT OH member, I realized that I can do anything I set my mind to.
So, I encourage you to go the website www.tbbcf.org to learn more about this amazing foundation. I intend to reach my goal of a minimum of $250, required by all participants to join this dedicated group in at least a 13.1 mile walk (my goal is 26.2 miles). The dollars and distance are a challenge that I embrace wholeheartedly. Remember, any donation helps me reach my goal.
Thanks for reading,
nnifer Rozanski
