I got sick for the first time last night... Let me tell you, I do not ever want to feel that way again...! I had tried a small peice of steak... chewed and chewed.. but it wasnt enough. It got lodged in there and I felt like I was having a heart attack.. it hurt so bad... I thought I could wait it out but then decided... I would probably feel better if I did get rid of it. What an episode. No more steak! Today I had an egg and I will have my protein shake in a little while. UGH!!! Beckie

Sorry you got sick Beckie. Go slow with new foods. You're still newly post op and your body is still healing. Stick to what the Dr ordered. It helps me to help to stick to liquids and really soft foods for a day after being sick like that. Hope you feel better. Hugs, Maggie

BTDT! I have finally resigned myself to the fact that steak is not in the cards for me right now. Maybe on down the line but not now. I love steak so much too! Sometimes I will take a bite of my husband's steak and just chew it like gum for a few minutes and then put it in a napkin.

Beckie, I feel your pain! I had such a hard time with chicken forever. Now, 6 months out, I can finally eat it without It does feel like you have a football stuck in your throat doesn't it? When you finally get it out, it feels like such a relief! Sorry that happened to you. Hang in! JA

I had the same problem with pork. Every time I ate it, I It got stuck every time, no matter how much I chewed. It went on for a few months, but I can eat it fine now. Just go easy, you're still newly post-op. I wasn't even eating solids until 8 weeks out, I was on pureed from weeks 3-7. Your pouch is healing, so eat stuff that goes down easy and smoothly. Take care, Anne

I think the key for steak eating is in the CUT (the most expensive possible, -lean steak doesn't mean tender steak) and in the fact that you MUST start with a piece the size of a pencil eraser (and I mean the little pink eraser on the tip of a regular old yellow pencil. It's almost IMPOSSIBLE to chew steak to mush if youstartwith a piece any bigger. So, steak is a lot of work...perhaps not worth the effort at this point. But, there's always lean hamburger or ground sirloin if yiou want some read meat, right? Sorry you had that happen. Take it easy for a littel while, sometimes it effects you for a day or two. Best, Lisa C

Hi Beckie, First let me say haw brave you were to even try steak! I am 5 months out and have never even considered steak. Sorry it didn't work out for you though. Isn't it a horrible feeling when it gets lodged like that? I get that a lot with bread if it is not toasted. You would think I would learn but I keep trying bread and always end up sick. Hope you are feeling ok today. Sandy

I was three months out before I dared try a tiny piece of steak. I got the best cut I could, cooked it rare to medium, put a tiny blob of A-1 on it, and ate it with a small dab of mashed potato. Success! But I could eat only a very little, and didn't force it. You might want to give yourself a little more time before trying steak. Instead, perhaps try some finely ground turkey made into a small burger, maybe a little cheese and dab of ketchup. You might find this easier to digest. Good luck! --Steve
