Becky- I really think you need to get all the fizz out of it. I was told no soda ever..unless it was flat. Joanie

Again..this depends on what YOUR doctor says....I could have flat soda now if I want it..but who the heck ever wanted flat soda? For the real thing..in my program we have to wait 2 months out. You must have noticed that there really are not too many 'absolutes'...and that varying 'gospels' ALL contradict each other depending on the Doc...and yet..for the most part..we are all above ground and doing fairly well with our varying philosophies, 'shamans' and gurus... I guess the long range goal is prudence, caution and common sense. I look forward to a reunion with my ole pal...Diet Coke! Sher'

Yes, every MD has different protocols with Soda. I RARELY drink soda now of days. When I do, it is usually flat from either shaking the fizz out, leaving it opened, or getting the fizz out of it other ways. If you REALLY want a flat soda and can not wait, take a LARGE glass, pour in no more than 1/3 of it with your favorite drink, add one packet of Sweet-N-Low and stir briskly with a spoon. Watch the bubbles FLY!!!!! In about 15 seconds, you will have the flatest soda you can ever imagine. Soda no longer controls me as it did pre-op. I used to drink 3-4 2 liter bottles A DAY!!!!!!! Now of days, 64 of of water, propel, or decaf ice tea is a good day. BTW, when I did have NON flattened soda, it was uncomfortable in the pouch and intestines. No longer worth it. Peter

Yep, every Dr is different. I was given "flat" Diet Gingerale in the hospital, but don't recall being told if/when we could drink carbonation. Some say it can stretch the pouch and many people experience discomfort after drinking it. I have always like my soda flat, but have stayed away from it since surgery... I would reccomend making it as flat as possible, just to make sure, if you do drink it. Carmen

Becky, You are 3 months out, I am sure you are still having lots of cravings and head hunger. I was told no soda. Nothing carbonated at all, and the reason being it stretches your pouch. After a year your pouch stretches anyway, I figured I don't want to do anything that will make it stretch more. Take good care of yourself, Cheryl
