Hi everyone... I was just wondering when you could have alcohol... I have some parties coming up and I was just wondering if I will still be drinking water... hahaha! Hugs. Beckie

It depends on what your Dr. says.... But, let me caution you that having alcohol at a party for the first time is NOT something you want to do out in public. Everybody reacts differently to alcohol as a post op. Initially, it made me stinking drunk in like- oh say 3 sips...not a pretty thing. Now, after 2 years, some alcohol just DOESNT agree with me...like tequila- and another- like beer- barely effects me (except to make me gain dramatic amounts of weight through water retention) So- tread lightly, be careful and take it slow with whatever you do decide to try. But, most of all- ask your doctor when it's OK to try. Best, Lisa C

I am not really concerned if I have a drink or not at these parties... I can always be the designated driver! I was just curious about it. I havent had a drink in so long that I would be drunk fast anyhow... and who needs that, right? Thanks for your info! Beckie

Beckie, I haven't tried anything other than wine. I had some at about 2 months out and it went alright. I discovered I can have about 2 glasses and then I start to feel really light headed. But that isn't much different from before when 3 glasses would have an affect on me. I agree with the others who said to try something at home 1st, to know how you will react and be in a comfortable place in case it doesn't go so well. terri

Becky, it is different for each person AND what kind of alcohol you consume, For example, I had mixed drinks at 6 weeks out and had not problem at all. If I have 3 oz of red wine, I can barely stand up and slurr my words! Jess drinks whatever, but give her a clear malt beverage and she's history. Joanne can drink anything, but does get looped quickly. So, if you are looking for a pattern in all of this, you are better than we are. You sound like you are doing great already. Can't wait to see you soon. We will be at the meeting next Monday. Hope you'll be there. Peter
