PCP in NEW HAVEN county

Hey folks, this is my first post! I'm trying to get a Lap Band and my PCP is totally against it.  Well, he's mostly against WLS and most elective surgeries, from what I heard. My BMI is 50 and yet he says 'your body is handling your weight well'!!!!!

It's very frustrating. If anyone could refer me to a pro-WLS in the area, that would be great. I live in West Haven and I have Anthem Blue Care Family.

Thank you!!

Katy,
I'm so sorry you PCP is not supportive.  In fact, mine was the reason I had my WLS.  She's fabulous, but I'm not sure she is accepting new patients.  However, there may be someone in her practice that does. It's a bit of a ride for you, as she's in Guilford, but right off of the exit.
Her name is Catharine Arnold, and the practice is Guilford Internal Medicine.

I'm 4 yrs out and it's totally worth every minute of it!  It's not a quick fix, but it gives you the tool to be able to diet like everyone else.  I didn't have the lap band, I had a lap RNY, and I'd do it again in a NY minute.
Good luck!

Hi Katy,

I live in Beacon Falls and my PCP is in Oxford but work for Connecticut Hospice in Branford.  I will ask some of the nurses who they use.

Will be in touch soon.

Thanks for the leads!! I recently followed one that brought me Yale, but they are not accepting new patients until about February! I'd really rather not wait 6 months to get started, and I have scheduled my psychological exam  already. My next step is visiting the nutritionist, but they need a referral from my PCP, so my progess is really being stalled at this point.

I don't mind driving a bit; I think it's worth it!

I understand this is a tool, I've attended a webinar about the surgery and I've also educated myself as much as possible online, so I feel very confident with my choice and I'm ready to move forward! :)

Thanks again,

Katy

Hey, I also live in West Haven and I am a patient of the West Haven Medical group on Campbell ave.   Dr. Mark Drabinski is my PCP and he takes Anthem Blue Care (I have the same Insurance).    Last November he told me that he thought I should try on my own, but if I thought I was ready, I should talk to Dr. Valin at St Ray's.

I had done the pills, Weigh****chers, Anti depressants, etc.    I went to See Dr Valin in December and Dr. Mark gave me an excellent recommendation for the Insurance company.   My BMI was 47.

PLEASE BE AWARE, WLS is a tool, not a cure.   I eat right and work out like a nut.   MY BMI is almost 25 now.   (350lbs to 197lbs as of today 9/5).   I am 6'2"

I think Dr Mark is taking new patients.   If you are familiar with Campbell ave, he is at 687 I think.   Right before the Railroad bridge from the center of town.

Good luck.

Thank you so much! That is exactly what I was looking for. Hopefully he is taking new patients. I live in that general vicinity, so that would be great to go there.

Thanks again,

Katy

I am pretty sure he is.  Tell the secretary you were referred by Ron Heckert.   He knows my family well.  He may want a physical and a Diet and weight loss history before giving support, but it sounds like it is worth it.

Hi,

I am new to this site.  i am looking for a doctor in the connecticut area who prescribes Adipex-P.  Any information will be greatly appreciated.  Also if not adipex-p some type of prescription supplement that suppresses your appetite.

Thanks
