Lap Band on 11/17/08 with
And I am having such a hard time deciding what I want Lapband or Bypass.

I have about 120-140 pounds to lose and I was all ready for Lapband, beacause it is less avassive and quicker recovery time,

but I am hearing alot about people still being hungry, even with mulitple fills. This really concerns me.

I know that with lapband you lose weight slower and maybe not as much, but my fear is that I will be months into the program and lose only a few pounds.

I do know that what you eat and exercise is also important and I do like to walk etc.  .

I don't think I am a huge eater, but I eat alot of the wrong things mainly to many carbs. I crave them.
My problem isn't quantity but quality.
I also have MS so I do take alot of vitamins and suppliments so thats not a problem for me.

Does anyone have any idea which surgery they think I would benefit from more?
any feedback is appreciated.

It sounds to me like you've already made your decision

Have you thought of the VSG?  It is kind of the middle road-I had it done in April and am down 63 lbs.  I am very happy with it-you have the restriction, but not the malnoushment part-everyone has to decide what is best for them, and what will work for them-With the VSG the grehlin is removed, so you don't have the hunger.
Dr, Bell at Yale does this procedure.  Good luck in your decsion making-just take your time and do your research.

RNY on 09/28/05 with
Though the RNY is more invasive, I think you'd benefit from it more because you're a carb addict.  With the lap band, you'll still be able to eat your carbs and not dump from sugar...With the RNY, you'll probably dump from to many sugars and it'll keep you away from them.

There's no real sure "fix" with the RNY, either.  I'm 3 years out and at a point where I'm eating carbs again (my mistake) and I've gained back 30 pounds.

My husband also had the RNY and he could have gone either way with a band or RNY cause he only had about 100 lbs to lose, he chose the RNY cause of his craving for carbs and sugars and needed to have the dumping syndrome as a reminder that he can't have those anymore.

You have a lot to lose, I think that you'd lose more from an RNY, but, there have been people with a band that stuck to it tride and true and lost up to 200 lbs, but over a very, very long period of time...

I'm sure if you had a band and didn't like the result, you could switch and have the RNY done later on, but that means another surgery.

You seem like you're pretty set on the band...go with your gut feeling, (no pun intended), it's usually what's right for you...

RNY on 01/15/08 with
Did you have your consult with Dr. A yet? What did the two of you think was best. It does sound like you have already decided but are worried about it. Carbs are a killer and the RNY can help curb that more than the band.

Hello Chrissy-

like everyone has said...you have to go with what you feel is the bes choice.  Doctor Bell and my cardiologist sorta decided for me....I had 200 pounds to lose...and because of my CHF they wanted me to lose it quickly...

I still, after 13 months, don't ever feel hunger...WOO HOOO

good luck!

Chrissy,
Here's my two cents worth, consult with Dr. Bell; he is the best there is!  He'll tell you what is right for your situation.  I am 4 yrs. out and saw him on Friday, and I cannot tell you how awesome this doctor is.

I had a lap RNY and would do that again in a second!  No pain, no real issues with the surgery.  Yes, you do have problems afterward trying to take back food.  The key is to stay away from the carbs!  They are like poison to us!  Exercise and eat right and it's all good.  Four yrs out and I still don't get real hunger...head hunger is another story; you have to always work on that part.

Good luck!

JA

PS Stay away from Dr. Valin's he does not follow his patients and it is like a factory there.  I had a friend who had a procedure w/him last yr and hasn't seen him since then.  His wife, who is a nurse, follows you and yells at you if you don't lose weight!
