Pain... Question

Hellooo everyone! I just have a question about something I've been experiencing this week. I have a pain, stabbing kind, every time I eat or drink, no matter the consistency in my abdomen. It's above my belly button and below my pouch, the pain feels like it's the size of my fist right in the center. I haven't been able to eat as much as I usually do, b/c it hurts by time it hits that portion of my abdomen. It's been happening just this week. I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem and what might be going on. Any thoughts would be helpful. If it persists, I'll probably go see my Dr., who in turn will probably send me to Dr. Valin, since she won't touch anything pertaining to my digestive system now. Thanks!! Michelle

Hi. I have a friend who had his RNY in April 2004, around Thanksgiving he began to get sharp pains when he ate, in the same area you desribed. He went to see his surgeon and ended up having exploratory surgery (laproscopic). They found a hernia, which is a common after bypass surgery. The hernia never presented itself externally so he was unaware that he had one. I'm not an MD, but it sounds like you may need a colonoscopy or similar procedure to find out what's happening. --Steve

Hi Michelle, Well I guess my best advice would be "Get Thee to Your Doctor"!! There are a myriad of things this could be and non of which may be related to your RNY. Gall Bladder being top of the list, hernia as Steve mentioned, Kidney Stones, Ulcers etc. etc. etc. You might want to start by calling Dr. Valin's office but they will probably tell you to see your PCP first. Don't you hate the run around?? . You might want to mention to your PCP that these other possibilities aren't necessarily related to your surgery except maybe the ulcer. Hope you feel better soon. Let us know. Linda

Hi Michelle I'm sorry you're having pain. My advice is to skip the PCP and call Dr. Valin's office. Deb will let you know if she thinks it could be WLS related. If it might, I'm sure they will see you ASAP. I wish I hadn't waited so long to call them with my gall bladder. Good luck, feel better and let us know how you make out. Hugs, Maggie
