Last year at this time, my then-4 year old daughter was invited to an ice skating party. All the moms were out there with their daughters, except me. I weighed 313 pounds and there was no way I was putting on skates. I really felt sad for my daughter who had to go around the rink clinging to the side railing, it took her half an hour! I felt humiliated yet again by my obesity and mad about how it kept me from enjoying my life. Well, I am down 110 pounds, and I went ice skating yesterday for the first time in 23 years!! I can't even describe the pure joy I felt, and still feel. I feel like crying I am so happy. What a gift this surgery has been for me! My husband, daughter, niece and nephew and I were out there for 2 hours. They are all inexperienced skaters, and held on to the side, or used the skating "walkers", but I actually skated around for 2 hours. I am amazed! I held my daughter's hand and skated next to her. It felt nice to be able to do something physical, and in public! It is one of the many reasons I had surgery. To become more active, healthy and enjoy things that "normal" people enjoyed that I would only dream of!! I am so so grateful I was given this opportunity to have the surgery, and to now actually do the things I used to dream about. What an incredible feeling! I just wanted to share this with everyone. Anne, Your story made me tears in my eyes and can understand how you felt so happy and helped your daugther there. Without this surgery, You can be there to help your daugther and have fun there. Next thing you can try new things like roller blades. I would like to try roller blades this spring. Thank you for sharing this with all of us! Hugs Kathy K

Dear Anne, Nice name by the way You have made me feel so much better by sharing your story. I will be a week post op on Tuesday and starting to wonder if all this pain is going to be worth it. Your story just really hit home with me. I don't have any children of my own but I have nieces and nephews and have always had to watch from the sidelines on to many activities! But hearing you express how hard it was before and how wonderfull it was to be able to skate this time is almost undescribable. (sorry I'm a bad speller) My niece Tessa is six years old and we are incredibly close. She wants me to do things with her all the time and unfortunatly I have been so limited in what I could physicaly do. Thank you for reminding me how much my life is going to change and how great it is going to be to go roller skating! I have never roller or ice skated in my life and I know that Tessa loves to roller skate and soon I will be able to do it with her. Thank you again for sharing and congrats to you on such a wonderfull accomplishment! Love and Peace Anne B
