Hi All,

Ive been looking into weight loss surgery for years ive been obese since childhood. Ive had several Primary care physicians and no one takes my weight problem seriously. Im young but its getting worse all the time and I cant freaking lose weight!!

My last doctor told me "some people are just made to be fat" well that isnt good enough for me.

Does anyone know any Doctor who will take weight issues seriously?

Thanks

Amanda

I have the best PCP of my life. And he is great about weight issues. His name is Dr. Muhammed Qureshi and he is in Norwich. He is at the Family and Community Center near Backus.  The address is 47 Town St and the number is 860-892-7042.

I have to say, he saved my life. He diagnosed a bunch of blood clots in my arm when I had no idea what was going on. Also, he really is honest and understanding about conditions. Run, don't walk to Dr. Qureshi!

No matter who you decide to go with...you should definately switch to  a new doctor.  If you feel you have a serious weight problem...and your doctor thinks "some people are made to be fat" then you doctor is not listening to you....good luck in your search!

I too had been obese since childhood....and we never really "bothered" by my size although my PCP would tell me annually to lose the weight...then at 34....I got sick...and spent 8 years getting heavier and heavier...and my heart got sicker and sicker...until one day ... the cardiologist said...have the gastric bypass or die...I chose to live...and lets be fair....this is not as easy as I thought it was going to be...I have to work really hard to lose weight now...but I want to reach my goal...I weigh less now than I did the day I graduated High School...I feel better than I did the day I graduate High School...physcially, mentally and spiritually....

sounds to me like you know you know where your going Amanda...I hope you find the right doctor to get you there!!

I love my PCP, Dr. Evelyn Miller in Montville at the Backus Health Center on New London Tpke (Rt.32), in Montville. When I first mentioned to her I wanted the surgery she was all for it and did whatever it took to get me approved, matter of fact the first day I told I was getting it done she sent off for my insurance authorization, even though I knew they needed it from my Bariatric surgeon, that's how commited she was to me getting this surgery.

"Fat may have defined me in the past, it may have crept into everything I did and  said and didn't say and didn't do--but, those days are over, and one day soon the world is going to find out just what's been under the fat all these years---and so am I. Ready or not..."

Maybe your doctor doesn't see you as morbidly obese.
But if you think you are why not go see a surgeon and he could tell you where to go for a Primary care Physician who will help you and he will also tell you if you really are "there" yet.
Good Luck.  Weight is such a hard battle.  Life is still hard but easier to get around without all the girth.
