Desperately seeking support

Hello I'm new to this board but I am 3.5 years post op. During my 2nd year I had complications due to scar tissue and had several surgeries to correct the problem. During that time I became very thin and felt very sick (amemia, etc) Despite this I loved feeling thin. Last April I began to recuperate and was able to eat normal again. Recently, however, I have been able to eat volumes of food, it's as if I never had the sugery. I have gained 35 pounds! I am utterly disgusted with my self and am in need of support from others. I normally never ask for support because I think I can handle everything myself, but I now realize this is not true. I've never attended a support group but am looking for one in the Middlesex area or to connect with some people who have had a similar experience. I can be e-mailed at [email protected] Thank you, Judi

Judi, You should be very proud of yourself for what you have acheived thus far and all you need to do is motivate yourself and start all over. I mean that when someone people feel the weight come back on they start from day one whether it be a liquid diet or an all protein one or simply watching what they eat. I am only a little over a month post op myself but I find support whether you want it or not is the best thing. I attend Middlesex Hospital's support group. It is mostly patients of Dr. Aranow's but everyone is welcome to attend. I know it is Monday nights starting at 7:00 P.M. Toya

Judi You have come to the right place! This is a great support system. I am sorry that you had so many post op problems. You can get the extra weight off...go back to basics. Protein-Protein-Protein. Water...Exercise! The support groups are wonderful. We post what we eat daily here and have recently begun post our exercise workouts. Join us...there are a lot of new post ops who are so inspirational--as well as people longer out...who are wonderful supports and inspirations as well. Welcome! Good luck in your journey...glad you had the willingness to ask for help. Hugs Joanie

Hi Judi, I commend you your reaching out, and congratulate you on your success!! I did receive your email and I will respond, but I wanted to touch base here with you quickly to justr say you should not be dusguested with yourself...you are human and we all fall from grace now and then. Think of where you would be if you didn't have this tool...if you are anything like me a gain of 35 lbs would be a quick drop in the bucket...I'd be looking at a gain of 50+ pounds, if not more!! So, I'll email with some support group detials, and consider the CT Board a support group...a state-wide, caring support group that ia there at the click of a button! Peace, -Deb
