Maggie- Let me know if that flank steak is any good...I would love the recipe. I am looking through my friends South Beach cookbook and finding some high protein easy recipes...I will try them and share them with the boards if they are any good. Joanie

Good morning!!! I have been reading the food logs faithfully.... and I have been curious for a while... I see many people drink the Carb Countdown dairy beverage.... I know the Protein Train is chugging along.. trying to steer clear of carbs... however... 9 grams of fat in 2 cups of milk.. seems very high to me. That's more fat than is usually in a normal meal for me... I have had good luck with the fat free simply smart milk...it's still very high in protein and it's yummy! Numerous dieticians have told me NOT to eliminate an entire food group..(carbs) that's not a long term practical solution. Moderation is key.. so they say. And I have a hard time convincing myself that protein bars, while containing little carbs, sometimes contain 250 calories and high fat content are a good choice for me. I have had better luck meeting my protein goals.. and watching fat and caloric intake. I was wondering if certain Doctors say to eliminate carbs? It's all so confusing.. when the low carb "versions" seem much higher in fat and calories...... please let me know..., not being critical... just honestly confused as heck.... becky (down 102 lbs since 10/1/04)

Beckie, This is all very confusing... I personally either go w/ Carb Countdown Skim Milk (no fat) or the Carb Countdown Chocolate (5g of fat in 8oz). I also look for lower cal protein bars. I like Q-Smart bars. 120 cal, 6g fat & 10g protein. I also got some Carb Well bars w/ 140 cal, 5g fat and 10g protein. I know Joanie loves Momentum bars which are pretty good, but the store where I usually shop has been out the last few weeks. Not sure what the nutrition info is on those. All of these bars are alot smaller and easier to eat (for me at least). You can find them in the cereal isle at just about any store! Hope this helps a bit! Carmen

Rebecca- We are not taking your post as critical...it is all confusing. My dietician did say I should be having some fresh fruit everyday..which I do not always do. My surgeon also says I should not be drinking my calories...but the dietician sees nothing bad in adding one protein shake a day. I mix half choc and skim CC milk to cut down on the fat and calories. I, like Carmen, like the grocery store protein bars...lower in calories. The Momentum bars are 12g of protein and 150 calories. Everyone's post op diet is different..and from you losing 102 lobs in just three months...whater you are doing works..stick with it and please post what you are eating so we can see how you are going about being this successful...we can always learn! Hugs Joanie

I use the fat free Carb Countdown. It does become a challange trying to find low carb and low fat. I eat the Carb Well cereal bars as well. It's much easier to balance when you track your items in a program like fitday.com. This way you can see if you're eating too much or too little of something. You are correct that a lot of low carb items are very high in fat, but you learn to work with it so it all balances out. Good luck and congratulations. Maggie

Yesterday I ended up being pretty sick, but feel so much better today! I only drank about 1/2 my CC/Unjury and had some chicken soup... According to fitday 272 calories & 33g protein. Today I feel better but my stomach is still unsettled a bit. B?- Propel Water S/L- Turkey Broccoli & Cheese Lean Pocket (not going to eat much of the crust) (13g) S- Carbwell Cinn Raisin (I still haven't tried one) (10g) D- 3oz Chicken mar in Italian Dressing (been wanting to make this since Monday) (21g) S- Nectar shake (23g) S?- Cheese if I feel like it (7g) 67-74g.... Hope everyone has a great day and for those who have to be out, please drive safely! Carmen
