Anyone Dread their yearly RNY check up?

I hate going...I feel like Dr Aranow will judge me for now following things to a tee...especially this year, cause I've gained weight back and hate to go in and show him.  I guess I'm the person that aims to please all and feel like I've kind of failed.

There may be an issue going on, because I never fill up anymore.  It's like I have a full size stomach again.  Maybe I need some tests to see if I've stretched out or ripped a staple line, etc.

I've got to make the appt...just got the reminder card in the mail the other day...and if I don't, he'll send a registered letter reminding me again, and if I don't make one after that, he'll call personally...that's his way of keeping up with us!  That's what I've heard, anyways, I've always gone.

Just wanted to see if anyone else dreads the yearly appt...

Nope haven't gotten to that point yet but I still dread getting on the scales. Old habits die hard. LOL

Dr. Aranow seems like he really cares about us and will help you get back on track. If you think something is wrong with your pouch then you should go and see him. That doesn't mean it will be any easier tho.

Good luck. I am sure he will help.

Hi Paula,

I've replied to you privately as well.  Yes, I absolutely HATED going for my yearly RNY check up, because I had NO restriction, could eat as much as my husband, and I gained back quite a bit of weight!  That being said, I did find out I had a problem - a fistula and a VERY enlarged stoma, which I had repaired on the 18th.

Stay proactive in your healthcare.  Do NOT postpone your appointment with Dr. A, he seems VERY caring - and you need to keep going in order to succeed.  Talk to him, ask for an upper GI to see if you have a fistula, and endoscopy to see the size of your pouch and stoma opening.  Then you will know for sure why you have no restriction, and believe me, it helps the psyche!

God Bless,

Hi Paula,

Yes, we are almost 3 years out.  I understand what you are saying.  I too, feel like I have a full size stomach again.
It is so amazing how much I can eat.
But like the other post said - go - keep your appointment and hopefully he will correct the problem.  That's what I'm hoping for this time.

Luckily I have not had issues that would make me dread going....yet. Admitting there is a problem and getting checked out is a positive thing. Go before things get to far out of hand.

All the best.

Hi Paula,

I do understand about feeling full stomach and can eat more. I am 4 years out since this surgery but I work so hard to do exercise five times 30 min a week and I have personal trainer where I work three times a week for free! I am lucky that I  have great job where I work sport fitness Center at work which is very helpful for me to keep my tools. My weight go up and down but I did not gained alot of weight but gained up to 7 pounds but i got it down by using my food track book for input what I eat and build up waterload. Spend alot of trips to bathroom :o)  It is not easy job but it is my struggle by my head hunger but I am keeping working hard to do exercise, input my food track on my computer, reward myself for small things than eating junk foods  for rest of my life. I wish someone tells me that we can feel full stomach after 2 years from this surgery  but no one did not tell me this but I will share this to new patients if they want me to be lecture about this surgery so they can prepare for themselves after two years from their surgery. I will be honest to tell them it is hardest work after this surgery.
About Dr Aranow, My friend visited him for her check up and he was not furious at her but he was pleased to see her to keep see him once yearly for check up.  My friend regained but she is back on right track to work harder to lose her weight. I am proud of my friend and know she can do it. It helped me to talk with other post op people  because they do understand how we felt. Try to keep in a touch with your post op friends and support each other. Do what Kathy  B said. Have it tested  for  upper GI to see if there is a problem or not. Dont give up!

Ok, lady...if you call today, I'll call today...let's go in there with heads held high and to heck with any (if at all) judgements the doc will think. It's for our better good, really...have to get our blood checked to at least make sure our calcium is good, cause we don't want it to take it from our bones...

I'm calling later today, have to leave now for morning of other appts.
