for those who haven't done it yet and want to. I will be interested to see if this works!

And rightly so. These are pyramid schemes, although freeipods is one of the legal ones (so far). They are paying for the right to your personal information, phone numbers, email address, etc., and then have you get five of your friends to give up their privacy also. They also run sites called freedvds, freecds, and even freecondoms.
Acquiring a customer is expensive, and Gratis Internet seems to have found a way. The five folks you get to sign up also have to try out an offer, such as Internet service for you to qualify. Some report that their SPAM increased ten-fold, and direct marketers are calling their homes all the time.
Nothing is free.

I received a little bit of added spam to the address that I used when signing up for this service. About a month later, virtually no email spam. I have never received unsolicited phone calls either.
And yes - apparently, an iPod is free. My husband has not received added email spam, nor a phone call since signing up, but he is enjoying the music on the 20gb iPod.
Of course, this could be that, when we signed up, they had free offers, we never had to give a credit card or sign up for a trial membership.
