How soon after you started the process was your Surgery Scheduled?
Or How soon after your Insurance approval came in?

A friend of mine told me for her surgeon (I forgot is name) he was so backed up she has to wait almost a year for her surgery.

I know Dr Aranow is busy also so I am wondering when i could expect surgery if approved.

Thanks
Chrissy

I posted in your welcome post about mine and my husband's wait time...it all depends on how many tests Dr A wants you to have done, how often you can get to your nutrition appts, and your psych appts with Kim Daniels, how quickly your PCP and other docs get their documents to them, etc.

After everything is done and in your file, it goes on Dr A's desk for his final approval...once he goes over it, he'll sign off on it and then it goes to Lois, (his nurse) who then submits it to insurance...there's the wait...my insurance, (Federal BCBS) was quick, quick...one day or less..I met all the criteria and they didn't require the 6 months of nutrition counseling and waiting...

You'll get all different answers from everyone cause of the insurance issues, I think.  They tend to be the ones that hold things up.

You can call dr a's office and ask the desk for the proper codes for the surgery...then call your ins company and they'll tell you (after you give them the procedure codes) what your policy reads.

Yes, I saw your response after I posted this. :)
I will definatley get all my appointments and info together asap.
I also have BC/BS and also  no 6 months of nutrition counseling requiredt .

I do meet the BMI requirements, have PCOS, High insulin levels and pain in my legs and feet.
I am also hoping that with my MS they will seel my Mobility is affected by excess weight.

I think RIGHT NOW, what I am most nervous about is Meting the Insurance Criteria.
time will tell right. :)

I had a 6 month wait cause of insurance. I was approved a few days after THanksgiving and because of lack of sick days and vacay time I had to wait until Jan but I could have been in in Dec.

From the time of my first appt. with Dr. Aranow to surgery was 3 1/2 months. The only holdup on my insurance (Tri-Care)  wanted to see the actual film from my upper GI and not just the report so,  that took an extra couple of weeks. Getting into to see the nut. and physc was relatively fast.

Thank you all so much for your responses. I am getting so excited. i saw my PCP today and he completely supports me looking into surgery. he says if I need a letter or if Dr A needs any information to let him know.
In 2 weeks I see my natruopath and I'll get info from her and the next week, my first visit with Dr A!
Yay!

I started the whole process in March and my surgery date is Tuesday, the 29th.  The insurance was the easy part for me.  It took only about 10 days for approval.  It was all of the other appointments and tests that causes problems.  It seemed like whenever I took a test, they would discover another health issue!  lol  oh well .. soon ... it will be better.  I am eagerly looking forward to next week.  Good luck to you and just remember to stay on top of all the appointments and requirements.  I used a sep. pocket calendar just for this... with a checklist of all the requirements I needed to fulfill.  I felt it did help because I was so nervous about forgetting to do one thing and having to start the process again.  So far, all is fine... but I won't let down my guard until after Tuesday.
