Bextra is the newest, next generation of NSAIDS. It is simply an
anti-inflammatory with no compound to aid in the protection of our
GI systems.
I want to help everyone understand the reason NSAIDS are dangerous
for us. Contrary to popular belief, it is not just that they
are "pouch burners" as the industry wants us to believe. It goes
much deeper than that. According to an article published in the June
1999 New England Journal of Medicine, NSAIDS, once absorbed into the
blood stream cause a chain of chemical reactions that affect the
prostaglandins and this in turn reduces the production of mucus in
the GI system. The mucus is what lines our GI system and protects our
pouch and intestines from damage.
If the mucus production is reduced, this would allow ANYTHING,
including eating something with too sharp of an edge or foods that
are extremely spicy, to inadvertently begin a marginal ulcer. The
best answer is to avoid NSAIDS at all cost. Taking an H2 receptor
drug such as Prilosec, Prevacid or Nexium is only a band-aid and no
guarantee that it will protect you.
If you are desperate to try an NSAID, my recommendation would be
Arthrotec. It is an NSAID with a prostaglandin compound in it that
tries to prevent the chemical chain of events I was speaking of in
the above paragraph. There are still no guarantees. You are at risk
for marginal ulcers any time you take an anti-inflammatory
medication.
Ultram is a mild narcotic and can be habit forming, so I would not
recommend more than a six week course of it at any one time.

Those are the 2 quick ones which I have to follow.
Peter

I had a weird eating day today. Last night I ate some broiled chicken (same way I always have it w/o a problem) but it didn't seem to move out of my pouch until lunchtime today. What a yucky feeling.
Anyway, I was glad to feel better for lunch, cause our boss took us out to Modesto's for a holiday luncheon.
B- coffee w/2 scoops beneprotein 12
L - 5 small Lobster ravioli and 2 bites of my friend's carrot cake
have no idea what protein count was for this meal, couldn't have
been more than 7
D - ground turkey 3oz w/tomato sauce 21g
total 40 === not so good today.
maybe have lactaid milk to add some more protein, but figure today is pretty much a wash.. really don't feel like eating anymore today.

My day was a total bust... my first day on 2nd shift is messing with my eating/drinking schedule so here it goes
B:morning start cereal w/ carb countdown milk 20
L Zone protein bar 16
S: Cappucino Protein Drink 15 g. (got at Job Lot and Oooh so good)
D1 slice turkey breast 1 slice am. cheese with a little mayo.(did not know what to do, cafe closes at 5 and my dinner break was 6:15
S atkins morning start bar 10
Cup Carb COuntdown Milk 18
Night time is the worst for me. And I thing its I'm having those monthly issues because I have to strongly refrain from grazing constantly.
Lacking in my fluids today but I am going to work on it until i head to bed.
