Viactive Calcium Chews

I have been reading alot of people asking about the chews. From what I was told by my nutritionist, it isn't that they are not good for us it is they could get stuck in the dime size whole inside our stomachs if swallowed. Also the type of calcium we should be taking because of absorbtion issues is the Calcium Citrate. I hope this helps everyone. Good luck on Jan 24th. You must be so excited. Thanks for the info on Viactive, thanks to the help on this board I've learned from Lisa that they are calcium carbonate which do not absorb. We need calcium citrate, not sure if Tums are citrate or not?? Anyone know?

Marie - Wishing you all the best with your upcoming surgery! I saw in another post that you were at the 12/15 mtg at St Raph's. I actually got up (shocker!) and told a little about my journey and took some questions at that meeting. Did you see me?? LOL!!! Well anyways, back to the Calcium thing. Yes, Calcium Citrate is more readily absorbed by the body and therefore the calcium of choice. Unfortunately, TUMS, Viactiv chews, etc..are all Calcium carbonate. If you take a bariatric multi-vitamin, check to ensure it contains calcium citrate. You won't need to supplement the calcium more than the multi will give you until you're a couple of months post-op. Good luck on the 24th.. I will be thinking bout you that day..and praying for a speedy recovery . I just saw Elena at Doc A's last week and she told me Viactiv is fine for us to take.. is that not true? Please let me know as i want to be healthy. Hugs Pattie
