WHAT IS A J P DRAIN? A G-TUBE? I HEAR PEOPLE TALKING ABOUT THEM BOTH ALOT. WHY IS THE G-TUBE SO PAINFUL? HOW LONG DO THEY STAY IN AND WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THEM BOTH.

Lydia: Not all surgeons us these. A JP drain is a tube leading out of you with a sqeeze ball at the end to help drain out fluids from the surgery site. I had one of these. I did not have a g-tube. My JP drain came out the day after surgery once I passed the leak test. It was uncomfortable coming out but only lasted a few seconds. Chryssie
