Hey guys, Happy Thursday! Couple questions... ** What protein shakes are decent? ** I have acrylic nails and when I had my knee surgery, they didnt want me to have them.. What if I cut them short? LOL!!!! I am sure I will have more questions... just trying to think of all of them. Thanks, Beckie T minus 11 days and counting.

I don't know about the shakes but I would remove one nail. Cutting them short won't help because they check your nail beds for cyanosis (blood circulation) so they need to see if real nail. Cindy

As far as protein shakes everyone's tastes are different so can't help you there seeing I still haven't found one I like. Your nails will have to be removed. If they can't get an O2 set rating on one finger they would need to go to another. Circulation is also checked and sometimes they need to check on more than one finger. Heidi

Beckie I have acrylic nails and had a full set on for surgery! They have ways of checking your oxygen levels now without looking at your nail beds! Look as pretty as you can...cuz you you will feel pretty lousy *well I did I even got a pedicure with a design on my big toes! The aide says that all bariatric patients come with their nails and toes done! I went to middlesex also..so you are safe. Hugs Joanie

Hi Rebecca, I'm 4 weeks post op and the protein thing had me totally miffed until I met with a dietician. She suggested sticking with the Carnation Instant Breakfast or the Atkins shakes. They actually taste pretty good. In the beginning your only doing 2oz at a time. I mixed up my own Atkins Powder with soymilk and a banana and I could not consume it quick enough. After a few days it was down the drain.

Hi Beckie, I hate most of the protein shakes as well - although I can tolerate the EAS Advantage Chocolate Fudge ones, and the strawberry ones. However, I really liked Pro-Stat 64 - its a syrup that tastes like cherry (I've heard they have butter pecan now too). I add 2 TBL to my decaf tea and it tastes like cherry tea. It goes down well, has only 64 calories. You can also just take the 2 TBL by themselves - like you would cough syrup. I believe you can order it at Pro-Stat.info. It is one of the few protein products that holds up in hot liquids, it is not chalky, it is sweet (I don't use sweetener in my tea when I use Pro-Stat). Its worth checking it out - hope you like it. Every Dr is different with the nails. I had to take mine off, but my friend got to keep hers on. I would call the OR dept. at the hospital and ask them their policy on it. As for shakes, Atkins were the only shakes I could tollerate the taste of after surgery. Hugs, Maggie

No clue on the nails, but as for protein shakes everyone is different!! Tastes also change as you move along..... I went to www.bariatriceating.com and ordered a whole bunch of samples. As things sounded good, I tried them.... I love the Very Cherry Berry Nectar... tastes like fruit punch. you can also order some samples at www.unjury.com. That is the only chocolate I like and they have unflavored which I mixed in foods while I was on purees to get protein in. Hope this helps! Carmen
