Nancy, I am in the same boat with UHC. I will give you the short version. I started a new job eight months ago. When I first started, I called to ask if they cover WLS. They said yes, because UHC DOES cover it. HOWEVER, when I called, the person on the other end was NOT looking at my plan and as it turns out, there is a written exclusion in my specific policy that does NOT allow me to have the surgery. Therefore I was denied. I have recently hired an attorney to appeal the process for me. We will see what happens. Please do not give up hope. Find out why exactly your policy doesn't cover it. Sometimes it is because of my situation and sometimes it is because of medical necessity. Keeping my fingers crossed for you and please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. Nanc, Just getting caught up and read your sad news. Keep checking with the insurance otherwise a lawyer can certainly help you out in this case. They are giving you no option with the carrier and that is UNACCEPTABLE! We'll have to talk now that the sister visit is over.
