Hi All As many of you know yesterday was Neil's surgery. I meant to post last night, but after having logged on I realized- I REALLY NEED SOME SLEEP!! I've been so nervous about his surgery that I haven't been sleeping well. We got to the hospital at 7:50am and they took him in for all his pre-op stuff. @ 9:30 Dr. Aranow came in and we felt better after talking to him. He is very reassuring! I new he wouldn't let anything happen to Neil, but it wasn't him I was worried about. At 10:00 they took him in and I sat in the waiting room. I wasn't feeling nervous until someone asked me what time it was and I realized it was 12:30. Finally at 1:30 Dr. A came out and told me the surgery went very well, but he was having trouble breating because of his Sleep Apnea. I don't think he realized it was so severe. He told me they'd be watching Neil very closely because his O2 levels were dropping so low, but "don't worry cause he's okay". YEAH RIGHT!!! Well, at 3:00 when I still hadn't heard anything I went and asked the receptionist and she called but they were trying to decide where to put him. At 5:00, I was the ONLY person there, FUMING, and I called my mom and told her to call the hospital and ask for Neil's room. They transfered her to his room!!! No one even told me he was out of recovery, or how he was doing. I WAS PISSED!!!! I went upstairs to his room, he wasn't there. I asked the nurse and she said he didn't come up yet so I told her they just told me he did, finally after 3 calls, she found out Neil was in the Critical Care Unit. I couldn't believe what I was going through. All I wanted to do was wrap my arms around him and tell him how much I love him and when I finally got to see him he was so out of it he didn't even know I was there(as most of us are after surgery) He woke up for a little while and we dragged his butt out of bed and he walked around the nurses station, he did really well but then his O2 levels went way down again and he went right back to sleep. I left after a while so he could rest and I had a migraine. Hopefully today he will be put in a regular room. Thanks for listening to me rant! Christine-111

I'm sorry Neil's road wasn't bump free. But, up and walking is a GREAT GREAT thing! I'm sure he'll just keep on improving every day. It;s best that he stayes in the CCU so they could monitor him. Please take care of YOURSELF- you won't do the family any good if you wear yourself ragged. Remember to take care of your basic needs. Please keep on updating us when you can...OR if you want someone to update for you- send me an email [email protected] and I'll do it for you or give you my phone number so you can call and report in and I'll type it all up. OK? You don't need any additional stress. Give Neil a big hug from me. love & hugs Lisa

I am so sorry to hear that you had to go through that. How horrible for you. Not to mention inconsiderate, rude, scary, etc... I'm also sorry that Neil hit a couple of road blocks, but glad he's doing better now. That's great that he was able to get up and do some laps yesterday. Hope today is a much more stress free one for you both. Hugs to both of you, Maggie

Hi Christine, Thanks so much for posting to let us know how things went. Please know that I will be praying for the both of you, but I am sure Neil will be fine. Like the others have said, walking is the best medicine, so if he continues, I'm sure he will do fine. God Bless, Kathy Bilodeau

Hi Christine, Wow, what an ordeal! I am glad Neil is okay, it sounds like it was even rougher for you yesterday than him, since he slept through most of it. Like everyone said, make sure to take care of yourself! Drink your water, get your protein in, stay healthy. Please tell Neil we are all thinking of him. Anne
