Hi It's been a long time since I don't post but I'm always reading the messages. I'm 4 months post-op and I'm 67lbs less and I'm already looking for a plastic surgeon to have the tummy tuck done. I heard, I'm not sure that in Boston, Ct. there's a hospital and I don't know the name yet of the hospital, that if you(us) donate the extra skin to that hospital for the burn victims, that you'll get the operation at a lower cost. Now I want to know that if anybody knows about this or heard about it? I will continue my search for a doctor that will do the surgery at a modified cost. Thank you for all your input. Continue your journey to a healthier life Your friend----Millie Martinez

To the best of my knowledge, that is a "Urban Legend" that is circulated widely on the net...along the lines of "send this email to 10 people and Microsoft will send you $100 for each"....they cannot use our stretched out skin..though I don't really know why...I can't see how cadaver skin can be MORE resilient than ours...but they use THAT...go figure! I assume you mean Boston, Mass.... If you go for modified costs...please please be sure you are not also getting modified quality! Happy Holidays, Sher'

Yes, unfortunately, it's a myth. No burn center wants our - excuse me- but- abused and stretched out skin. They can GROW skin in a lab now. So- best to start saving your $$$, because there is no surgeon that will discount their fees fro a TT, just becasue. Congrats on your WL so far- you're doing great!!! best, Lisa C

Well, yes and no. You are right that no one takes the skin from us. They grow it is sterile conditions now of days and no longer take it even from cadavers. As far as reduced cost plastic surgery...... you should contact the Hamden Support Group for information on the Yale Plastic Surgery Group. You would be shocked. Peter

I think what Peter is trying to say in his own special way, is the Yale Plastic group does surgery fr a VERY discounted rate. They use students and interns, but all are supervised by the actual Docs and residents. We had a lady at one support group in New London who just had a tummy tuck there and only paid a total of $3000. I have a friend who had her breasts reduced there too, and I think it was $2500. So you would be "shocked" at how reasonable it is. Robin R
