WLS AT HARTFORD HOSPITAL
Yep...I know all about it because that's where I am having mine done.
It is a branch of the CT Surgical Group...a top knotch bunch of surgeons...and the Doc is Dr. Darren Tishler...Chief of Bariatric Surgery there and a Professor of Surgery at UCONN...specializes in lap rny and has done about 125 of them....knows how to do the open if need be and will if he gets in and finds the lap won't fly for whatever reason...he took way more than a weekend course in lap surgery...my PCP referred me to him...he is young but very sharp...has a lot of experience and credentials all over the place...is a straight shooter and rather strict in diet and maintenance and is commited to providing lifetime aftercare.
They get you in right away for a seminar and if you then want it..you get a consult with him the same day...I got a lot of my tests and bloodwork done there after my consult. There is a support group system and you have to attend 2 before he will do the surgery...you have to have all the standard preop tests and evals..psych and nutitionist etc...Hartford Hospital is a full service place with a great rep and state of the art equipment...lots of resources at one's fingertips if God forbid something goes wrong...Dr. Tishler has not lost any patients so far and has not had any complications...
Here is the number of his RN Coordinator :Nina Arnold (860)524-2623
They will send you a great info packet and a bunch of forms to fill out...but there is no 4 month string a long or a bunch of lollygagging around...I feel very comfortable with him....and I know since the program is just getting off the ground we will all be handled VERY well..(not that we wouldn't otherwise).
I started this process on November 18th and have only 2 more appointments and 2 support groups to attend...I was able to name my surgery date...pending insurance approval. I have had a THOROUGH medical work up...nothing spared.
Good luck to you in this process, whatever you decide.

Hi!,
Yes, I think so! I am staking my life on it! There is a support group meeting there at 6 pm on Dec 20th...
Let's face it...Hartford Hospital is not going to head up a new bariatric program with a klutz...! Nor is CT Surgical Group who has only top knotch Docs...
Of course this is a very personal decision and there are other choices...just depends on your liking and how long you want to wait to get the work done...I just know that folks can get in here and get down to business...since you already have all the preop stuff done , if you see the Doc and you like him..then the sky is the limit... Pending insurance approval....(and your new insurance is similar to mine)...he will still likely have you attend 2 support groups...he says he won't operate before that...so you are looking at mid January at the earliest depending on what you decide, I would think.
I wish you the best in your journey however you decide!
