Hi all you traveling mavens! I will be going away to NYC for a seminar this coming weekend. It will be the first time since surgery in July that I will be traveling. Does anyone have any suggestions for what foods to take with me? (short food breaks during this weekend seminar, which will be long hours each day) Or any food suggestions while eating out? Want to stay on my food plan (mostly proteins, with shake supplement daily). Thanks in advance. Towanda

Hi Towanda When I'm traveling, I always call the hotel to see if there is a fridge in my room. If yes, I bring some shakes and Carb Coundtdown smoothies. I also bring a good supply of protein bars to keep in my purse. When eating out, there is something on the menu that I can usually have. The last conference that I went to, only had one meal option. I just ate some of the chicken and a few bites of vegies. It is hard to plan meals while traveling. Those few staples always carry me through in case of a bind. Good luck Maggie

I throw a few of the crystal light single mixes in my pocketbook so I always have something to drink. They usually offer bottled water. I pack protein that mixes with water just in case. As far as eating out I can usually find something. Chicken caesar salad, shrimp something or a fish dish. If you find a protein bar that actually tastes good PLEASE let me know. I find them all gross. Good luck traveling. Chryssie

Hi Chryssie, Where do you buy the single Crystal Lite pouches? I've never seen them in the store, just in a few cafeterias. My husband talked his caf into letting me buy a box just before I went to Jamaica - and they are great. I'd love to be able to buy more when I run out. See you tomorrow. Kathy Bilodeau

Hi, Kathy! I bought a box of them at Target in North Haven. They had the raspberry ice and lemonade flavors. I've also seen them at a supermarket in Hamden. I'm pretty sure that it was Stop & Shop, but it might have been Shaw's. They had the lemonade and iced tea flavors. Debby

Towanda, When I travel I make sure I have some protein bars with me, Chryssie I seem to prefer the All in One Bars and the choc. chip Atkins breakfast bars), nuts (I started with smoked almonds but moved on to mixed nuts with sesame stick mixed in), beef or turkey jerky and I like the Atkins Crunchers (chips). If they have a fridge I would bring cheese and fruit. Also there are some premixed Tuna and Chicken salad that are not made with mayo and they aren't bad and don't need to be kept in the fridge. Have a great time and enjoy. I have gone away several times and have not had a problem anywhere. Linda

Hi Towanda, I traveled when I was 4 weeks post-op, on business to Austin. I had no transportation, and had to eat what was available in the hotel. There was a Chineese restaurant in the hotel - so I had a dish with chicken and veggies in it. Breakfast was the hardest, because the hotel offered a Continental breakfast - no protein at all. I had packed some protein bars, beef jerky and nuts - and they really came in handy. Most of the time you can work around the situation in a restaurant - so don't worry. Just pack a few items to help you through and you will do fine. God Bless and enjoy NYC! Kathy Bilodeau
