Introduction and some first-time questions
Hi fellow Nutmeggers: This is my first post and I'm Reneybeany. At this time, I am exploring having lap band surgery. I will soon be 54 YOA and am approx. 75 lbs. overweight. I had some success years ago on the Dick Gregory Bahamian Diet mix (DGBDm); put the weight back on slowly but surely. DGBDm is no longer available and nothing else has worked for me.
My M.D. is Darren Tischler in Hartford. I have tried to read as much as possible about the procedure. I have the following quest. and would deeply appreciate any assistance: (1) Have any of you had to vomit due to illness such as flu? -- what is vomiting like after lap band placement? (2) Those with successful post-op placement: Any foods you sense you will never be able to eat again? (3) Any regrets or "wish I knew before I did this" ? (4) Any feed-back you can give re. Dr. Tischler and his office is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
you may want to ask these questions over in the LAP BAND forum as well. There are a lot of helpful people over there with loads of info on the lapband.
consult wt= 235 / surgery wt= 218 / lowest wt= 163/ current wt 178

Hi Reneybeany,
1- I have not vomited because I try not to over eat. I usually stick to soups when I'm sick.
2- I haven't had any reaction to any foods as of yet but I haven't had red meat nor bread since the surgery. I tried pasta but I got full really quickly.
3- I have no regrets so far. Just be aware, you still have to eat right and exercise. The Lap-band is only a tool.
4- I did hear Tischler is good doctor but I went to Dr. Barba at ct-surgeons.com. Dr. Barba does his surgeries in St Francis Hospital and New Britain Hospital. The team is really friendly and works well with health insurances. Also they have a monthly support meeting for Bypass and Lap-Band patients so is one of the main reasons I went to him.

I too have heard great things about Dr. Tischler. I wish I could help with some answers but I had the open RNY. I will say that I have no regrets - would have done it sooner had I only known. Just work the program and allow the surgery to help you change your eating habbits and you will do fine.

Hi Scott: Thanks for your comments and words of encouragement. Today, I gave the lap-band eating routine a practice run and have to say, this is going to be tough. I have a headach to beat the band. I am not going into this blind -- I know I have a heck of a road ahead of me but I have to do something ... thanks again.
