CARDIAC PROBLEMS 3 YRS POST OP
ONE OF THE REASONS I HAD WLS WAS TO BE HEALTHY AND HOPEFULLY PUT AN END TO THE PILL ****TAIL I HAD EVERY MORNING. IT WORKED FOR THREE YEARS. I HAVE HAD SOME WLS COMPLICATIONS, BUT RECOVERED. I HAVE RECENTLY BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH VENTRICULAR TACHYCARDIA. WHEN I ASKED THE ARRYTHMIA SPECIALIST IF IT COULD BE RELATED TO THE WLS AND ALL THE WEIGHT I LOST, HIS ANSWER WAS THAT WLS IS RELEATIVELY NEW AND YOU DON'T REALLY KNOW HOW IT IS GOING TO AFFECT THE BODY. ANYBODY GONE THROUGH SOMETHING LIKE THIS ?
You've probably always had SVT but it was just never diagnosed as it usually only happens for short spells. SVT is actually a pretty common condition that lots of people have. It's usually caused by an extra electrical pathway in the heart that causes the beats to go in a loop. It can be uncomfortable when the heart is beating quickly but it's not really dangerous. You should probably start keeping a log of the events as to what you were doing when they episodes happen. Many times episodes will happen when you are at rest but after being active during the day.
You should also be avoiding any medication that contains pseudoephedrine which is a common ingredient in many/most cold and sinus remedies so your options are very limited if you get a cold. You should also avoid caffeine.
My 10 year old son has it and was diagnosed when he was maybe 4ish?? He takes atenolol to keep it under control and when he's 12 he can have abalation surgery if he wants to. If he chooses to have the surgery, they just thread a catheter in and blast away the extra electrical pathway that causes the looping. He has no restrictions and can do anything he wants including all sports. Good thing because he is super active.
