Well after a week of testing...colonospy, ultrasound and echo stress test--I can honestly say I am exhausted!  BUT.. I was able to run at 3.5 mph at a 15% incline for 7 minutes...WOO HOO--although the results were not what I had hoped for...I have to remember that my pressure and pulse are that of an healthy young woman!  My cardiologist was hopeful that the cardio myopathy I have had gotten better...that is not the case...although my heart is no functioning under optimum conditions now...it is still sluggish--which is why I get dizzy at the gym...but as long as I watch my pressures he will let me continue to exercise...so that is good...because the weight loss has become sluggish with the lack of exercise... as is well in weight and wellness!

Jen,  I will keep you in my prayers...I am so glad that you are monitoring your health so closely.  Keep positive about how much healthier you are, and take it one day at a time.  TOPS LOVE!

Hi,  I'm glad you passed the test... I've done some reading up on cardiomyopathy and was wondering what you had... Is it: Primary - they can't attribute it to a certain cause like HBP, heart valve disease, artery or cogenital heart diseases, etc Secondary - due to specific causes, and also other diseases of other organs. The three types: Dilated, hypertrophic and restrictive What type do you have and what is your treatment plan? Did you have this condition prior to your RNY???  Is it getting better?? Sorry if I'm being too nosy..just interested and wondered if this condition will get better or you'll need surgery or lots of medications??? Take care and hang in there... paula

I have idiopathic cardiomyopathy....my cardiologist has never refered to the disease as primary or secondary..nor have we discussed the three types you reference.  I have had it since I was 34--the feel it began while I was pregnant with my son--caused by  a virus.  My weight was not the cause, however did not help and caused the high blood pressure, left ventricular disfunction and the Congestive heart failure I suffered just before surgery.  I now have low blood pressure, no disfunction and no congestive heart failure.  My meds have gone to two a day...and very low dosages.  My blood pressure actually gets too low while exercising..because my heart is sluggish.  I still have several PVCs during testing...hence Dr. Gerber feels he will need to fix my heart before I undergone any more surgery...but all in all he is very happy that the correctable conditions are correcting themselves.  I hope I have answered your questions.  I think my cardiologist talks to me in words I can understand...He takes great detail to explain exactly what is happening using a model...I can tell you my heart pumping functionality on the left, or enlarged size was at 38% prior to surgery and now is at 47%--(out of 50%--each side works 50% optimum) which is the best he thinks it will be....but I am taking it!
