the operation went well. i cant help but to feel great. No insulin since last friday, blood pressure is perfect with no meds. when i started my pre op fast i weighed 296 lbs, today I'm weighing about 261. i cant wait to get the staples out of me so i can get around better.  Can i ask does anyone know how long do i have to worry about blood clots? I'm not really sure and haven't found any info. thanks all.

Glad you're home and recovering!  As far as the worry for clots goes, It's two weeks post op.  Dr Aranow had us wear the compression hose/socks for 24/7 for two weeks post op.  Could take them off then. If you walk around, a lot, this reduces the risk of the clots...also, do the deep breathing, too... Make sure you get up and walk at least once an hour, even if it's just around your house...get that blood moving around and prevent it from pooling. Hang in there, sounds like you're doing well.. I honestly don't remember about the blot clots but walk, walk, walking will keep the blood moving and prevent them. Not sure about the staples either, I had lap RNY and my tiny incisions were closed with superglue!!

Congratulations. So glad that you are doing well. As for the blood clots just be sure you are up and walking frequently while you are awake, get in lots of water that helps too. Dehydration and inactivity would increase the risk. When you are in  bed change your postion at least every two hours and flex and rotate your feet and ankles to keep that blood flowing. Also don't sit with your legs down for any length of time, elevate them.

Keep up the good work.

Congrats on you surgery.  I believe the clot risk window is 4 to 6 weeks.  I was on blood thinner injections for ten days post op (only had compression things on my legs in the hospital).  I was really worried about blood clots - not sure why...but every ache and pain I felt in my legs I would freak out.  I read up on it and people who did get blood clots were in severe pain in their legs and the site was hot to touch....if that happens, call doc immediately.  Keep walking, hydrating, doing all the things your doc said to do.

OMG I would have NEVER given myself the injections at home. Only reason why I got all the ones I did was cause the nurses gave them to me. My poor belly was a black and blue patchwork.

My hubby gave them to me.  My belly was black and blue too.  I didn't really feel them - for the most part, my belly was numb from the trauma of surgery - I think I was in too much pain inside my tummy to worry about the outside.

LOL He wouldn't have done it then either. It was funny, I had little circles where each shot was and then one got HUGE and I had it for 3 weeks.  Gotta love blood thinners.
