I just found out I need a C-Pap machine. I have to go to a 'clinic" at the lung specialists office tomorrow. What the heck am I getting into? Who pays for this nifty little piece of machinery> Insurance? I hope so! What is it like? Does it hurt etc? The people at the doctor's office were not real helpful....and I he was so backed up with appointments they wouldn't let me see him! HELP!!!!!

Hey Christine, I have CPAP machine and LOVE IT!!!! It is a mask that goes over your nose that keeps a strong flow of air going as you breathe so the oxygen you breathe in gets to your lungs. At first it is just hard to get used to wearing BUT once you do (for me took a good week, but kept with it) and LOVE IT!!! I have a ton literally TON of energy. I am sleeping all night undesturbed. I have energy to complete projects, do take my dog for walks.. you name it!! My insurance picks up the bill, haven't paid a penny! Hope that helps! Carrie

Hi Christine, This is very common in MO people. I had a love/hate relationship with my C-Pap. It gave me a great night's sleep (so I loved it), but it was ugly and difficult to get used to (so I hated it). However, it is vital - you could have a heart attack from sleep apnea that is untreated, so you should go forward with this. Now that I've lost over 100 lbs., I no longer need the machine - so there is hope for the future for most of us (not all, however). BTW - you might want to try the nasal pillows if you have trouble with the mask - I found them to be much more comfortable. They fit into your nostrils - instead of over your nose - it was better for me. Hope this s God Bless, Kathy Bilodeau
