Parting Is Such Sweet Sorrow

Well tonight I decided it was really time to clean out the closet and bring the winter stuff out of storage. As I looked at what I had from last year and realized that the majority of my wardrobe was way to big, I kind of got a little sad. I started packing what I have to give away and kept thinking oh I really liked that or maybe I can keep that but I knew that it would not be. I know this must sound crazy but it was really difficult, but on the bright side I have inherited a whole new wardrobe of smaller sizes. And its so nice to be able to shop in regular stores. Walmarts ladies dept and I are best friends. Don't want to spend too much on clothes that will be too big next year. Hope you all have a great week, Mary Lou

I have read that this is a difficult thing to do. Parting with old clothes--hard to think of it all as permanent. Maybe that is why I have put it off...but I think it will be theraputic for me in the long run. I have also found consignment shops to be great places to buy "in between" clothes. Anyone in the Orange area...Consignment Originals is wonderful--lots of nice things! Its near the Christmas Tree Shop entrance on the Boston Post Road. Wow--maybe we can storm that shop after the gathering on the 20th at On the Border. Joanie

Mary Lou, Just think of all the new wonderful clothes you will have in the future! I agree to that you should keep one outfit to remind you of how far you have come. I forgot to do that in my haste to get rid of EVERYTHING that I wish I had saved one outfit but I still have the pictures to prove it. Congratulations on your progress and the results really show! How is the job front going? HeatherS

I did this very thing on Sunday...so I feel 'ya on this. I've only lost about 30 lbs since the beginning of last fall...and my last winter clothes just DONT fit. I really wanted them to...but I was just fooling myself. My hubby said I looked like a bag lady in one sweater. So, a bunch of perfectly good clothes are all going to consignment. The good thing is that I can consign them, since they have such little wear, and get money back to buy some new clothes. Maybe you can do the same with some of yours? It's a milestone to be proud of, though it's hard to think of it that way. I can remember many times where I dreaded getting out the winter clothes- knowing that there was a good chance that everything would be too SMALL. have a great day & have some fun shopping for new winter stuff too! best, Lisa

I know clothing exchanges and consignment shops are a popular thing to do with our old clothes, I would also encourage you to consider donation to a local battered women's shelter (along with any outgrown kids clothes) Many of these poor women are forced to flee with nothing more than the clothing on their back...and a large number of these women are women of size. Work/professional type clothing is often used to help these women get back into the work force. I just wanted to give you another alternative...one which helps out our fellow citizens. Have a Sparkling Day!! ~CAE~
