Alcohol
Hi everyone.. Just wanted to talk about some funky things going on right now. I've never been an alcohol drinker.. a few sips of anything and my blood was boiling, so maybe I had 1-3 drinks a year. Now lately, I'm finding that I like alcohol a lot more. I want to order it at restaurants instead of having a meal. I had some pretty good wine in Texas.. drank almost half a bottle by myself (it seems) and I've never liked wine.
I have to say, drinking after this surgery is a trip!! Half a drink of anything and I'm buzzing big time. It's hilarious. (In a sick kind of way)
Has anyone else had issues like this? What's going on here? I just find it strange, along with all the other things that are happening to me. I mean, I don't drink b/c I feel depressed.. I just don't know what's happening.
Any insight would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Michelle
I can only speak for me...I don't know if you considered yourself a food addict or an addictive personality,,,I consider myself one though...and I have used food to tranquilize myself and escape....I used to drink and now I am over 8 years sober...after getting sober I gained a LOT of weight...I "changed seats on the Titanic".....just be vigilant and make sure you are not on the threshold of trading one compulsion or escape for another...addictive diseases are an intricate and tricky business.
My guess would be the same...trading one compulsive behavior for another...but, that's JMHO...and I'm certainly not a professional.
Let me tell you this--
Not only is it VERY taxing on your poor kidneys to loose all this weight...but adding the burden of alcohol on a regualr basis is a stress it just doesn't need.
You can get alcohol poisioning much easier than a 'normal' person, because the alcohol dumps directly into your system. That's why you get buzzed so easily.
Drinking alcohol instead of eating, you're probably going to take in at least 2x as many calories as you would have if you just ate something. This is a sure way to stop your weight loss and STILL be hungry.
Now, don't get me wrong...I'm not on a high horse here. I drin****asionally, but I've never had any more than one small drink or a 1/2 of a larger one. AND, I only added alcohol in to my frame of reference once I had reached goal. Probably comes from my personal aversion to alcohol, having grown up with an alcoholic mother...but that's another story for another time...
Anyhow, please make sure you really think about the reason you're doing this. And, if you need to, go and speak to a professional about it. It could help alot!
best wishes,
