I wonder why not over age 50???I understand the BMI increase increases morbidity...also seems like pulmonary embolisms are one of the biggest threats..all other things being equal. I'd love to see posts on folks post surgery who are 3 and 4 years out.

I really think sometimes, it has to do with the comfort level and experience of the surgeon. RE: Seeing more long term post ops...For that, you'd need to spend more time on the main boards. We just don't have a lot of 'old timers' that participate in this state board. I'm 2 years out and I had surgery with Dr. Aranow. My BMI was over 50. Dr. Aranow saved my life. I'd recommend him to anyone. You need to RESEARCH the surgeons you're looking at and ask a lot of questions...like- how many surgeries have you performed as the primary surgeon, what are your personal complication rates, and check medical licenses in this state and any other state they may have practiced in....there's much more to choosing a surgeon. Please make sure that you consider more than one, so you get a balanced picture and the ability to compare. best, Lisa C Open RNY 11/18/02 306/138 and loving life again
