Almost Six Weeks out and can't get well
Ohhh Matt - We've been very worried about you. I can't imagine what you are going through. Please remember that we must be our own biggest advocates. You should be feeling 100% by now....you're not....that means something is going on. You don't just want to hear a dr validate that - you want them to DO something about it. If they don't, you will need to push them along. If all else fails, go to the ER and sit there until they do something. No matter what.....if you feel down in the dumps, or if you feel like the dr is annoyed with you or whatever.....remember this....YOU are what is most important....your health and well being (physically and mentally) for the good of you and your family....nothing else matters.
Well - I thought I may have seen a light at the end of the tunnel. Dr Barba saw me last Thursday and set up another endoscopy for Friday am. He said I most likely needed to be dialated again because of the stricture I had. Last time (two weeks ago) he only opened it to 12mm and this time he went all the way to 19mm, a big change. I felt really good the next day (Sat) and just took it easy. Mid-Sunday I started feeling sick and fatigued again and it has now gone back throwing up and having just enough energy to stay awake. I really think its my allergies and that post nasal drip making my pouch sick. I have not been able to get much more than 15-20g of protein in for the past month and can rarely get my vitamins in due to being sick to my stomach. I am thinking of just going to my PCP and asking her for help. I can't stand this feeling anymore and may lose my job if I do not get past this soon.
Not good news at all Matt.
The only suggestion I can give you is to see another doctor. I'm not sure a PCP would be the right choice either as many do not understand the whole inner workings of the RNY.
What you need is a Gastroenterologist who "gets" the RNY. So once again I will toot my surgeons bell (Dr. Bell at Yale) as he is BOTH. You have nothing to lose with a second opinion but if you keep going in the direction you are you could lose your health and your job.
You should at this point post op be feeling great so please consider a second opinion other than Dr. Barba's.

Are you on previcid or anything? I know after my "almost" stricture (I was 2mm away from having one) that it took me about a week to get over it taking Previcid. Get some G2 (Gatoraid's new low carb drink. Not very low in sugar but under my dumping levels) and drink that. I know it helped me when I was sick. Also like someone said, we are our advocates, ***** away until you are fixed! Try some Sudafed for the allergies. I know I had that problem first month or so out and was sick all the time. Just remember to take it every 4 hours or it doesn't work as well. Good luck hun.
I shall now be know as Hagatha: Queen of the queens.
