Help please--
Hi, Debra!
I really didn't have problems with the puree stage, just in making the stuff taste good, and not like baby food. Since I was told that I could use spices, I used a lot of them! Not to the point of being spicy, but to the point of flavorful.
Steamed or baked some salmon, mashed it up, added some dill, onion powder, garlic, etc. I have a ton of spice mixes at home from Penzey's spices (they're in Norwalk) so they went a long way in improving flavor. Did the same with canned green beans, carrots and peas, and with canned tuna, chicken and salmon. I bought applesauce and baby food fruits, which didn't taste too bad.
Made 98% fat-free cream of chicken or cream of mushroon soup with skim milk and fortified it with canned tuna or chicken (mashed), then added some fat-free ricotta cheese and black pepper. That made sort of a lump-free a la king tasting concoction.
Made fruit smoothies with skim milk, yogurt, banana, applesauce and a couple scoops of protein powder. Also had a lot of protein shakes.
(shrugs) I hope this helps. It seemed to me like the stages went by pretty fast and I didn't get the chance to hate any of them, except the first one. If I never see broth (a.k.a. chicken's bath water) again, it'll be too soon.
Good luck, Debra! Hang in there!
Here are a couple of items I lived on during the pureed stage.
I used canned fat free re-fried beans with a scoop of fat free sour cream on top...also, Hormel 98% Fat-free Chili w/turkey (also canned) - it was delicious and very easy to mush with a fork into pureed...and flavored cottage cheese in the morning also.
Good luck. Thank goodness the pureed stage doesn't last too long.
Anne
