support meetings

I live in Harwinton and had WLS back in Sept by Dr. Valin and have been doing great, but ever since Halloween I am having motivational issues. I am in need of support group meetings. If anyone can help me with where I can go that would be appreciated. I am willing to travel the distance to get to a meeting on a regular basis. Also if there are just groups of people that are in the same situation that get together that would also be helpful. Thanks Tammi

Hi Tammi, I am not sure where Harwinton is but if Middletown is not that far for you, Dr. Aranow's support group meeting is great. It is every Monday from 7-8 (except for the first monday which is for pre-ops). There are many patients of other doctors that attend. Eileen

Hi Tammy, I am also a patient of Dr Valin's. I had my surgery 9/24/04. There are meetings for newly post-ops (3 months and less) every other Thursday. There is a meeting this week at 6pm. It meets in the conference room next to the cafeteria at St Rapheal's. The monthly meeting is 11/17 at 5:45 in the auditorium too! I hope to see you Thursday! Carmen

Thanks Carmen I will be there on Thursday. I look forward to meeting you and others in person. Can you tell me how long the meeting is? Are there specific topics discussed at the meetings? What are the monthly meetings about and are there guest speakers? Tammi

Tammi, The Thursday meetings usually have a specific topic, I believe this week is vitamins, although there is lots of other things discussed. There usually is a guest speaker at the monthly meetings. Ususally 1 or 2 patients share their stories and answer questions. I find both meetings very informative. The Thursday group is much smaller though! Carmen
