Surgeons in CT Hartford area
Hi Everyone,
I have a bit of a delema. My Dr is leaving the hospital that he is practicing out of and will not be able to do any surgeries until at least Jan 2005. I'm considering checking in with other Dr is the area. Can anyone share with me a Dr that doesn't have a huge waiting list and treated them with care, respect and does open RNY? This is just something I'm thinking about, switcing Dr since it will be so much longer than it already has been with him moving offices and practice. Just a few opinions would be appreciated. And would anyone else consider changing DR's at this point? I've been trying to get this done since Aug of 2003.
Thanks so much !!!
Take good care !
Heather

Heather- I'm sorry for your trouble. Seeing a new doctor at this late stage in your process may not actually move up your surgery at all. First off, I'd like to say that choosing a surgeon really should not be about how long his wait list it. That means nothing. A short list doesnt mean a bad doctor any more than a long list means a good one. What matters is the training, experience, and skill as well as their aftercare programs.
So- I'd be looking at recommendations based on the skill of the Dr. Please consider seeing Dr. Aranow, out of Middlesex hospital, if you can get into a group meeting. Middletown is only 25 minutes away from Hartford.
Second, Dr. Tischler is now starting his program up at Hartford Hospital. He is with Connecticut Surgical Group. I went to one of his info seminars, just to learn more about him. I liked him a lot and agreed with a great deal of what he said. I can not vouch for his surgical skill. But, Ct Surgical group is renowned for having only excellent surgeons. He specializes in LAP RNY. You can easily check his credentials on your own. He seems highly dedicated to quality long term aftercare. Wehn I last spoke with him, he indicated gettting started with his first surgery in Hartford Hospital at the beginning of 2005.
So, perhaps you could give his office a call and see if you can get in to see him.
I'd say it can't ever hurt to look at other doctors. You never know, Perhaps you might find someone that is worth waiting for.
GOod luck!
Hi Lisa,
I'm glad to hear that Hartford Hospital is starting a program. I've always felt comfortable with that Hospital and they've done wonderful things with my parents and their health. Good to know.

P.S. I agree with Peter - absolutely. Time should not be an issue. You have to feel comfortable with your surgeon and very knowledgeable about the process.
Hi Lisa!
I think I gave the wrong impression with my first note on this. I really don't want to leave Dr Giles, but I'm also a full time student and we've been trying to work with my breaks in the school year. I started this process in April of 2003 if you really want to get picky about it, back in Pa. I then had to transfer all my info up here to CT when we had to move here and that postponed my surgery for the first time. I have been working with Dr Giles since Aug of 2003 and have had all my testing done since June of this year. The original plan back in Feb was for the surgery to be done in May, then that got pushed back to July, then that was pushed again to Aug, now the plan had been to straighten that one thing with the insurance company and then do the surgery this Dec over winter break. Now it looks like I may be pushed back again to the summer. What I was hoping was maybe one of the other surgeons in the area would accept my testing from UConn and would may be work with me on a surgery date.
I don't know what to do though. I'm really thinking out loud right now and feeling very frustrated. I have heard alot of wonderful things about DR Aranow though. Sorry if this is confusing, but I'm confused too! Thank you so much for the input and if this makes more sense why I might look to another DR please let me know.
Thanks again!
Heather

No one worth their sale has a short waiting list. Sorry.
This is like the most popular ride at any amusement park. Everyone wants to get on, and the lines are long no matter which park you go to.
Jan 2005 is not that far off. You may want to see is they are accepting appointments for his practice. Get yourself in line now while it is fairly early.
