Help!!! BCBS of TX Denied Me

I was informed today, that BCBS of Texas denied my request for Lap Band Surgery, after waiting for 4 months for them to respond. What do I do now. I really want to have this surgery. I am so tired of this waiting game. It is very discouraging. This is all that is left for me to get my surgery date. Please advise.

Is it possible that they just don't like the idea of Lap Band? I am a novice but from what I am reading it seems some insurers will approve the other forms and not this one...I am not clear as to why...are you dead set on Lap Band?

First of all...I am so sorry. The only thing I can say hun is Appeal Appeal Appeal. The previous poster is correct. Some insurance companies don't cover Lap Band Procedures. Not sure why. Some insurance companies disapprove on the first try no matte what you ask for. Did you get a reason for it? They may not approve lap bands, but only RNY's. You may not qualify under their guidelines. It may be specifically excluded from your plan. Call and ask why. Then appeal the hell out of them. Peter

Just let you know that My insurance won't cover for Lap Band but covered for RNY surgery. I have Federal blue cross blue shield. Maybe you will thinking about going for RNY but talk with post op people and your doctor about this. Don t give up !!! Kathy K

Dr. Aranow told us at his seminar that BC/BS will not cover Lap Banding at all they will only cover RNY. Cindy
