Does everyone who has surgery get one of those little beauties??? Is it terrible? I am going to go to Aranow...doing my seminar November 17th...does he make everyone have a mammogram..? What tests seem to be mandatory for all besides bloodworKand one last thing...do you notice people treating you differently now that you are thinner? and psych eval? Endoscopys??
I am determined to do this..I have suffered weight problems since a child...ALL of the problems..mental and emotional..I am now 50 and figure I would like to go out with a bang...wish I had done it years earlier...
Thanks a bunch..so glad I found this website!

Sherrill-
Answering yoiur questions-
1. Dr A does use an NG tube which is put in while you are under anestheisa. It is not that annoying and removed the morning after surgery with little discomfort.
2. He never required me to have a mammogram. I always have mine annually though..*hope you do too!
3. He requires a GB ultrasound...if you have not had a cholecysectomy
4. sometimes a sleep study(not sure why I wasnt required)...approval by your PCP, I had to have an endoscopy/colonoscopy..not sure he would ahve required it..but its something I had already scheduled...I wanted to make sure things were working properly in the first place
5.Dietary and pysch evals are painless. These people know the types of candidates they are getting and ask all the right questions. Kim Daniels-pysch is super!
6.Dr A required me to lose 10 lbs before he would schedule surgery and to attend at least 3 of his support groups.
People notice me period..now that I am down 54 lbs. Not being treated differently yet..but I have heard some stories from others.
Good luck on your jouney..Keep up with these boards they are a wealth fo information!

Hi Sherrill, I, too, had Dr A and one of my biggest worries pre-op was the NG tube and the foley catheter. I was a basket case worrying about them. And guess what? It really was no big deal. They were put in while I was under and they didn't even annoy me when I woke up. No prob coming out at all.
I had the exact same testing as Joanie did. I didn't need a sleep study or a mandatory mammogram.
I only had surgery a month ago so I don't think anyone notices the change in me yet. I'll leave that question for all the pros. Good luck. Linnie
Sherrill,
Dr. A does have naso gaastric tubes but it was totally ok. I was really worried about it because I tend to be a gagger but believe it or not I never really noticed it. The drugs were a great distraction. I did not have to have a mamo but I was up to date on mine. People that were friends treat me no differently. than before the surgery. Most are very happy for me. I think I treat myself differently though- I feel so much better about myself and still have a hard time believing its really me in that mirror. I did have an endoscopoy because of lots of stomach problems berfore surgery (gird and ulcers etc). I was on meds for 2 months before the surgery to help heal the ulcers, which is absolutely no problem now. I know he does require an ultrasound but thats no big deal either. Please believe me all the pre0op stuff is worth it and you do need it to get ready for your life change. Good Luck!!
Fondly,
Elaine
