BCBS STINKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hello CT WLS Family:
I am so upset. My doctor's office just called and said as of the first of the year 2005 there is a rumor that BC won't be covering the Gastric Bypass surgery.
This is so unfair. They have no right to dictate who can have what. I will probably be going in December 30th since I was already approved this year.
This really sucks for anyone that is waiting for their surgery next year. Hopefully if enough doctors complain the insurance company will change their minds.
They should realize there are alot of people out there that need this surgery or they could die. This is so ridiculous.
If anyone hears otherwise let me know, I would appreciate it.

Rumors, rumors...
This is the type of rumor that's been circulating since I got here over 3 years ago. Such and such a company is going to stop covering WLS as of X time. Now, don't get me wrong...I'm not saying it's not true. I have no info on it. I do not believe BC has made any announcement to that effect, unless I missed something.
It is known that in some states BC has chosen to suspend coverage unless an employer purchases a rider that covers it. (that's the Rub, your EMPLOYER needs to see the value of covering that service and BUY the coverage!) But, that does not mean that they have decided to blanket not cover WLS, period. And, btw, insurance companies REALLY don't care at all when doctors complain. Heck, they hardly care whe WE complain...
and we're their #$%ing customers. sorry. I share your frustration. But, enough of that...we can postulate on how evil and uncaring HMO's can be forever...
First and foremost, once you've been approved. Your approval is good for a certain amount of time...generally 6 months (check and see if yours is longer or shorter) It should not matter if your policy changes, as long as you are approved, and your approval hasn't expierd. You can call customer service at BC and confirm this.
Take care...
