Not a very happy anniversary to me

Today is my 3rd anniversary- It should be a wonderful day filled will accomplishments. It's not happy at all. Three years to the day I was just dischanrged from the hospital from having emergency surgery. I had a hernia and 2 bleeding ulcers. I have gone through the fires of hell since April 27th, 2005- I have also made huge life changes that made it possible for me to live and have children. I have never regretted this surgery until now. I almost died this past weekend to my weight loss surgery complications.  I now am a proud owner of a zipper scar that covers most of my abdomen. I feel lost, sad, angry, even ashamed that I ever let myself get so overweight that I even needed this surgery to live.  Will it ever end- the complications just keep coming year after year. I follow the plan- water- protein-vitamins-exercise... I GET ALL THAT!!! What I don't get it this- how could something that saved my life almost cause me to lose it three years post-op??   Any advice??

Christine, I am sorry to hear about all the medical problems you have had to deal with, but am glad to see that you are at home and recovering.

None of knows what life will bring for us. As an obese person having had so many medical problems myself before surgery I am constantly on the look out for any problems , or complications, so far not any besides some vitamin deficiencies. Who knows though if something more serious will occur. At least we are at a healthier weight to cope with what ever happens. Remember anyone after any type of surgery can have problems that come as a result of their surgery.

You have come through this ordeal and should feel proud of everything that you have accomplished.

I hope that you don't have anymore problems and wish you all the best.

HAPPY 3RD SURGIVERSARY!

Sher

Hi CHristine, I'm glad you are home and on the mend...With obesity and then obesity surgery, we don't really know what our bodies have in store for us, even if we're doing what we are supposed to do. I guess it's all kind of a crap shoot at times. Remember that now that you're all fixed and healed, who cares about the scar?  Will anyone really care?  I have one from my RNY w/ Dr A and it's just there...a gentle reminder that I had to do what I had to do to get healthy and not die. You may be feeling a bit down and in a tizzy cause you had anesthesia, too.  Give yourself time now to rest and heal...rest as much as possible, and walk as much as possible to get the anesthesia out of your system and you'll feel better. Vitamins are important too...don't forget those! We're all rooting for ya...know we're all here sending out good thoughts for your recovery! Think of it as starting new...like before..it's alll good! Paula
