Major Accomplishment-for me!
This weekend I went to a dog agility trial. I've been to many of them, but always as a spectator-my partner runs our dogs in the actual events. Well...this weekend, with 64lbs off my ample frame, I decided to try and run our dog, Lily, and see what happened.
Lily and I ran in six events over two days. We ended up with one first place, four second places and one third place! We earned "Q" ribbons on three of the six events! A "Q" means that you qualified-had no faults and did the event within the required time.
For those of you who don't know what dog agility is-you have to run through a course composed of jumps, tunnels and other obstacles that your dog must do correctly, in the proper sequence and within the alloted time frame. It's a lot of running (which I could never do before without collapsing), twisting and turning.
I was able to complete each of the courses without falling, making a fool of myself and with no huffing and puffing. As a matter of fact, Lily and I would run back to our tent to get her big treat reward after each run!
What fun! I now will be running Lily from now on. I might even try running my little dog-if I can get her over her fear of the whole thing.
Now in addition to my golf (starting private lessons this week), I have a new sport to add to my exercise regimen!

64lbs GONE!
You go girl!
Agility training is an aweome way to exercise and bond with your dog! I'm heavily involved with a Boxer rescue and would love to get our next Boxer involved with Agility...can I come to you for some training tips? Our current Boxer/Great Dane mix is too stubborn to succeed in Agility so I don't even try. He's my big baby, thou...110 pounds of pure Boxer lovin'!!
Golf too?? You are outta control! Keep up the good work!
Hope to see you on the 20th!

I belong to an agility club-SNEAK. We have a trial scheduled for the third weekend in April, I believe, at the Brooklyn Fairgrounds. There are agility competitions all weekend and there are loads of vendors selling all kinds of stuff for dogs and dog lovers. I plan to stock up on tshirts there as I should have a LOT more weight off by then!
When it gets closer to the time I'll post a notice about it and provide directions if people are interested in coming.
Most of the trials are in Massachusettes unfortunately. We have to travel close to two hours to get to most of them. If there are any closer, I'll let you know.
It's lots of fun to go to the trials, I'd love to have you come to see one. You'd get to meet my crazy Jack Russells and my sweet big girl. We have a tent, recliners to rest on, coolers stocked with drinks and dog treats and even a heater for when it gets nippy in late October and early spring.
Hi Ann, Thats great! Congrats to you and Lily I just realized that I know you from Camp Bark. Lily is a real sweetie she was one of my favorites in doggie daycare. I can't wait till I can do things like this again. Playing and running around with the kids and the dogs. I miss that so much. I have an appointment with the surgeon on October 22 so I hope surgery will be soon after. Oh btw I have the Boston Terriers "toby" and "Tasha" and you might remember my Red hair.
